Steel Question

Found some 40XX steel really cheap. Some of it it is 4070. Would this be good for blades? Why/Why not? If not how about gaurds, bolsters? Also has anyone used aluminum for guards/bolsters? Thanks

I don't know that I ever came across it in my career.All it has in there is about .25 % Mo.The 4070 would make a decent knife.Lower carbon ,.40 % might be ok for 'hawks or hammers.
