steel resourse

hey everybody
looking for a good resourse for 1050 steel i need it about 1/4 or 5/16 or 3/8 thickness. i usually get my stuff from McMaster Carr.. but they dont have any 1050. where can i get some? this is for forging a sword

Chris, although the don't list it in their "bladesteel" catalogue, you can order 1050 sheared to whatever width you want from Admiral steel. They have it in the thickness you desire. I was told by a well known swordmaker "Don't let them give you any shit" when you call. They WILL sheer it to your reqs, but you might have to twist an arm.

Other than that, Kelly Cupples has 1065 in 1/4"x1.5" bars that you could look into.
 
I don't think Crucible carries it. Admiral does. Have them shear a foot of sheet into eight 1.5" pieces for you (I'm guessing you want about 24" ).
1070-1080-1084 will also work (and won't crack as easy).

I was saying that 1070 or 1080 or 1084 steel would make a sword blade,too. Chris had just cracked a W-2 blade on quench. He is considering 1050 to avoid the cracking of his next blade.
