Hi Guys,
I think this thread has strayed a bit off track, so let me take a moment to address Conns questions/comments and bring the topic back "home." There has certainly been some good and constructive, though in some cases off-topic, discussion by some. (Conn, since you started this thread, if you would like to bring me some clarification on your original intentions, that would be great. Just drop me an email.)

In rereading Conns original post, I see two questions:
- Conn started by asking: "There seems to be a distinct dislike of 440a and 440b steels, with steels like 440c, ats-34 and cm 154 being preferred...why? I have a SOG seal, and have had nothing but wonderful things to say about it to anyone who asks. To me, this knife holds a fantastic edge, but to others, 440a isn't a quality steel." In context, he is asking for the input of SOG owners who have experience with SOGs 440A. If you have relevant experience, please feel free to share it here. If you wish to have an open discussion of various steels qualities, the Shop Talk Forum would be a better venue and receive more quality responses. If you wish to discuss the materials, pricing, or marketing strategy of SOG Specialty Knives, please feel free to start another thread on that topic.
- Conns other question was directed to me, personally: "Just wondering if SOG are planning to use any other steels in the future...and if either yes or no, why?" SOG for years used AUS6 (440A), AUS8 (440C), and SK-5 carbon steel (similar to 0-1) in our products. Over the past several years, we have added ATS-34 in selected products. And, just over the past several months, weve introduced using BG-42 in selected products. As new products are introduced and as existing products are reevaluated, the steel types will be considered as part of the intended use of the product, as well as the price point at which we are targeting for the product. SOG routinely experiments with a variety of steels, keeping in mind SOGs targeted consumer, the price point of the product, and/or the intended use of the product.
[/list=a]
Lets bring this thread back to those with ownership and relevant experience with SOGs AUS6 (440A) steel. For any other topics, feel free to start a new thread.
If you have any questions, feel free to email me.
