I have been working out some details with a steel strapping company and it looks like i can get them to get us some that is unpainted and unwaxed. it will be 1080-1095 depending on what we want. but i think thy would want us to order like 1 or 2 skids to do a custom run. which i think is 12 to 16 100Lb coils on each skid. how many people would be interested in something like this. we can have it any width and thickness we want. thy stock 2" wide and he could call the mill and have them pull some out before thy get painted for us. he will get the carbon alloy for me tomorrow. I'm guessing that it will be supper cheep as even the painted and waxed stuff is way cheep so the raw stuff should be even cheaper, I'm hopping we can get it for like a buck or less a pound :D

How thick is that stuff? It seems like a good idea! I might be interested, depending on the price (and thickness)

What the dickens are you guys going to do with a ton and a half of strapping steel? That seems like an awful lot of damascus...

Couldn't you just buy a couple normal rolls, divvy them up and strip the coating off as you need it?

Greaat idea. I think ie would be cheapest to go with a normal size, a custom run would add yo cost. an inch ro 1.5 would be best. Depending on price I would be down for a 100# coil

1-1/2"x1/4" in 1084; I would take 200, maybe 300 pounds. That's if its a buck a pound, if its cheaper I'll take more. It would take me about a month to have the money for it though.

Edit- .04 thick is ok but if you could get 1.5 wide rather than 2 it would be great!

well thats what we are hashing over, he might just beable to tell them to just hold out a few coils from the painter. he had some inn stock that is 2" wide by .04 thick. he will call me tomorrow with what he finds out. but i would realy not want the paint if possible and it will make it cheaper if its not painted. i'm guessing that the stock stuff is 1095.
