Did a little research comparing some suppliers 1080 with Aldos 1084, and ran into hightemptools.com ran by Kelly I believe.

Am I reading this right? 1/8" x 1 1/2" 1080 is $14 for 4 feet? This seems crazy cheap.

Hm. Didn't realize that. I guess I didn't factor in shipping cost. Everyone seems to average out then.

If you spend $100 or more, you get free shipping from Kelly. I got 32 feet of 1/8x1-1/2 1080 shipped to my door for $112 bucks. Can't beat that with a stick! :)

Wow. Nice. 32 ft! That would literally last me close to a year!

ive heard good things abutj kelly for me its aldo or SBmetals (all jsut depends on what grade i need)

With all the suppliers it's shipping that kills any deal. That is unless you order over 100$ with Kelly

Availability is an issue to consider too - Aldos appears to be out of any 1084 thinner than .187

Any ideas about when that is likely to change?

Did you get that off the website? It's usually better to call him. He will know if he has stock available that is not listed or updated on the website. Or, he can suggest an alternate steel choice.

Yes, that is just what the website says - I already got some so it doesn't matter much if they really have anything else or not, I'm gonna be makin' me some fat bladed knives. Or give forging a try. Maybe both.

A little off topic, does a cut off tool work for 1/4 inch steel?
Or what would I use for something like that?
(No, I cannot afford a waterjet cutting machine, yet.)

Aldo has been out of 1084 for a while now. I keep calling every week and keep getting told "next week." Its been that way for a couple months now. I hate to do it but unfortunately am gonna have to look somewhere else.

I've used Kelly Cupples whenever I can, only going elsewhere when he's either out of stock of something I want and I'm in a time crunch, or if it's for an alloy or dimension he never carries. So far, so good in 6 years.

For other stuff it's usually Aldo, but I've been hearing a lot of buzz recently about SB Specialty Metals out of Dallas. May check them out next.

hightemptools lists Kelly's stock, but he is not hightemptools. I have dealt with Kelly a couple times and couldn't be happier. My last order even fell a couple bucks short of $100 and he covered shipping anyhow. He is also the go to guy for getting Parks or AAA. Aldo is known for being the best, but every time I have went to buy something, it was out of stock. Every time I call Kelly he ships it my direction.
