Where is everyone getting their forging steels from? I have some suppliers but am always looking for options.

Thanks in advance,

Brett

Hi Brett,
I get my L6 and O1 direct from Crucible. W2 from Don Hanson. 15N20 from Sheffield Knifemakers Supply. Haven't gotten any 1084 yet, but as soon as I have some funds, I'll get it from Aldo Bruno, who is selling it in the Knifemaking Supplies for Sale area here on BF.

Forgot to mention 8670M from Admiral. It's what they used to call L6.

I actually get my O1 at fastenal near me. Take my advice though, the 1/2" is plenty large for most blades, the 3/4" round drill rod is a beast to forge down by hand. While i can forge down 3/4" mild easy enough.... the O1 is an entierly different story

1084, Aldo Bruno

15N20, Kelly Couples

W2, :D

The first two guys are super to deal but I'm not too sure about the third :)

at fastenal, there should be a rack of rods held vertically - maybe by the door. or you could just ask the guy where the drill rods/bar stock is...

Kelly Cupples' information is posted on our website under the "Steels for Knifemaking and Damascus" link. He's got a really good selection. Also, Don Hanson and Aldo Bruno are also great guys to deal with too. Finally, Len Landrum has a good bit of 52100 for sale at a good price, see our site for his contact info as well.

:)
