Steel Talon?

What type of steel? Is this the CUDA Puuko that we were talking about earlier?

Is D2 a possibility??

Will.... Definitely something to consider, whether it is the Talon shape or something else. Hint hint...

OBTW, I'll never see the word puuko again without thinking of JKM....

Last time that I was on IRC he and I were talking about it. You know, it could make a nice tribute to James if a puuko was done with some reference, engraving, or such, to him. And maybe proceeds going to his surviving family?

The Puuko idea is nice. Maybe with the Chai Cutlery logo on it or something.

MDP,
We have no DEFINITIVE plans yet for a steel TALON, but it has been a topic of internal discussion

Probally wouldn't do a carbon steel, since the knife has an exposed tang...maybe one of the better stainless'. We are looking at it for something next year. What do you think?

RS and Richard,
We MAY do more versions of the TALON, but we have no plans to get into the Puukko market.

Um, Will, I guess you don't understand quite what Richard and I were talking about. It wasn't so much that we were trying to get the company to go into the N.American Puuko market, but to consider a memorial puuko. In memory of James. Maybe too much to ask, but could not hurt to ask.

Will,
I'll second David's comment since Rob is one of the best designers out there & makes a mean knife once in a while(HeHeHe!) Especially in Talonite or D-2! Why don't you do Rob's Wilderness Latigo with Parasite in your O.V.B. line-up along with J. F.,NLT's 3 designs - I think would fit in real nice! Will we see J. F.'s O.V.B.'s any time this year?

Hope the vacation was wonderful!
Bill

I think a D2 Talon would sell like hot cakes. I know D2 isn't a SS but it is very close, and may even be more corrosion proof than some of the ss out there. And you already have the talonite Talon for those who need a stainless blade, right.

I agree with DB. D2 is much more corrosion resistant than most people think. That and it cuts oncredibly well and sharpens as easily as a tool steel grade.

Wipe D2 with Tuff Cloth and you will have no problems.

I think Camillus is kicking some major a$$ in the knife industry. They are the company to watch IMHO. I may be bias but I think a large part of that is because of Will Fennel.

D-2, that's the ticket!

A D-2 talon would be a great idea. It would enable people who cant afford or dont want talonite to get a great design. It would be an excellent performer with D-2. The tooling is already set up, so it would probably be pretty cost effective for Camillus.

Hmm...from what I've heard about S30V, it should out perform D2 and be far more stainless. But since Crucible has delayed it's release, I think I would prefer BG-42 as the blade material, but can't say as I have ever had D2.

Might I also suggest a smooth micarta handle? My custom version has a smooth handle and it is much more comfortable in the hand...no the Talon is extremely comfortable, but the custom is that much more!

I really like my talonite version of the knife, so I would probably buy it in almost any good stainless steel: BG-42, S30V, S60V, S90V, even ATS-34 or 440C.

How about a your thoughts Will? With the success of the talonite Talon wouldn't it be a good time to do a steel version? Should improve the price...

I second jeffj's remarks, especially since he was kind enough to let me hold his custom Simonich knives.

I can hardly wait for Mr. Simonich to begin taking orders again so I can get on the list! I simply must have a hawkbill Cetan!

I like the design of the Talon AND the sheath. I like everything but the price. A steel version appeals to me much more. It would be more affordable. Besides, I actually like sharpening my blades once in a while

Any more you can tell us Will? Has anything developed further? Steel choices? Date? Picture?

I (and I know others) are very interested in a steel version of the Talon.
