Steel to learn Evenheat oven

ive heard snap temper it at 350 then you can put the "real" temper in later ie next day also s30v seems to take well to cryo i think between 1st and 2nd full temp tempers

Ask Mr Linger , he knows how to HT S30V. That info should be available if you search the forum, also helpfull hints on HTing other steels.

I've done lots of A2 and it turns out great. really easy to get right.

I haven't done any heat treating and was wondering what snap temper means.

It's a low-temperature temper done immediately after quenching the steel. It stabilizes the newly hardened steel (martensite) without any possibility of going too hot, which would make the steel too soft.

I think the idea is that with the martinsite stabilized, you're free to temper it carefully at a higher temperature later on to get the desired hardness. Guys, does it help with grain refinement, too?
