Steel toe boots and the winter freeze

Well I just purchased myself a new pair of redwing work/winter boots and it got me thinking. Being my first pair of steel toes and living in Colorado with somewhat harsh winters. My question is.... if im in very very cold weather is that steel plate going to freeze my toes off? Could it be potentially dangerous (frostbite) while hunting or snowshoeing?

I used to wear steel toes, and this was one reason why I stopped. They will suck every bit of heat out of your feet on a cold day.

I'm glad somebody made this thread. I love my insulated rubber boots(steel toe) for winters in Vancouver. I'm moving home to Edmonton soon and wondering how they will fare. I have room for some heavy wool socks in addition to the insulated liner. I also think the fact that they are waterproof will minimize problems caused by the steel cap. I think I'd go for a real winter hiker for anything active, but rubbers are an easy alternative for getting around town on foot.
