hehe, i like the signiture. well outside of knifemaking, they're used in surgery, and as slicers, and tools steels are used for drill bits, saw blades, tools, dies, ect.

Thanks Magnum, but i was asking a bit more specific.
I know that BG-42 is a bearing steel used in turbine engines, but what is ATS-34 used for besides cutlery, let us see how many we can come up with.

Lessee, so far as I know...

S-7 is used to make hammers. 12C27 is used in razor blades, as I understand is at least one of the 440 series (440B). 52100 is a ball-bearing steel. ATS-34 and ATS-55 are specifically cutlery steels. A-2 is used in some machine bits. D-2 is used for planer blades. M-2 is a high-speed steel, which generally means drill bits. That's all I can think of just now.

d-2 is die steel, and it's used in presses to, m-2 can be used as lathe cutters, m-42 is cobalt steel, used in drill bits and bi-steel blades. speeking of which does anyone know where to buy m-42
