Steel Wedge Caps?

That's my thought. It smacks of marketing fluff to me. But I do think there's some benefit in them simplifying wedges for the less savvy by giving a big ol' striking surface when driving 'em and the whole wedge being iron meaning it's not gonna' split on you.

I have half a can of aluminum wedges all shapes and sizes, another can of metal and capped but plastic...this is my first.

Came out of a stamped 3 1/2lb Woodings DB today.
The head weight is actually at 4 1/4 lbs (?)o_O

Plastic? I saw a plastic wedge in a Barco pulaski I have. Problem is, there's about 2-3 gallons of epoxy or something in and on the eye. Hmm, maybe it's just epoxy and no wedge. Either way, I wanted to rehang it but I'd have wrecked the haft before the head would have moved.

Those plastic wedges are called for in current FSS specs. All the factory pulaskis we get have them. Some are black, some white.
Woodings Verona made a lot of government tools, wonder if that one you got was.
If so, despite the wedge they're good quality steel at least.

That's great information. I had no idea Woodings had gov't contracts. The steel is always good when I come across any Woodings Verona.
This one had a remnant of a barcode sticker and the handle has minor over strike damage.
Thanks M muleman77 , good info on Woodings Verona
