Steel Welding?

If I wanted to Spot weld a Guard on a hidden tang (From behind of course) using 1018 for the guard. What Blade steel should i use?
Have Zero experience in welding so any help is welcome

Really any of them you choose... all carbon steels and most of the stainless ones will work. See the manufactures recomendations for welding before hand.

4140 is an alloyed carbon steel, Tig it for the pretty welds, or use 6013 rod. ( i like 6011 for EVERYTHING carbon)

Pin and then Solder / Braze it on with low temp 400F solder.

No need to weld. You'd probably overhead the blade material and ruin the temper, as well.

I would think that you'd want to start with the blade steel, then figure out what you want the guard to be. In any case, Ive never heard of anyone really having problems with silver solder (and very few with JB) either, so I'm not sure why you'd want to try welding. Don't take this too critically, go ahead but I still can't imagine it being faster or easier than solder.
