Hi guys, just wondering if anyone would know what steel(s) were used in FN-FAL bayonets? A friend gave me one that he had from the Canadian Armed Forces that was issued in the late 70's to him. The blade is a thick bugger so I'm guessing it was never intended to be very sharp, more for poking fun at things.

Thanks

Tb

The original Fairbairn-Sykes commando knife was made from modified bayonets which were made from 1095. Today various alloys are used . There must be a bayonet forum out there wich could help .

Well they definitely aren't stainless steel.

You can search up info on Long Branch Arsenal as they made the bayonets but I think you really might need to go hands on and talk to some old timers from that 50s era.

Online info will mostly be a rehash of what was published then and metallurgy of a bayonet was a topic only some armorers would have discussed.

Can't tell you about FN bayonets but I can tell you that the Canadian military issued M7 bayonets along with a stainless version known as a C7.
