Steels you wish manufacturers used more often for blades

I would like it if Spyderco would use more than S30V on many of the newer models :P that's about it.

it is very annoying, I have not purchased one of their s30v blades, I have a couple of old vg10's and find myself trying to catch sprint runs in decent steel like s35vn or m4 or 52100...
I absolutely refuse to pay re-seller markup prices on any of the sprints... if I don't catch it, I wait for the next one

(and to be perfectly honest, I think they have pushed the pricing too high on most sprints these days. IMHO it seems like in the last 10 years prices have gone up at least 50% for the exact same models)

I don't quite understand the MAP pricing myself, I just know prices are going up and putting brand new knives out of my reach. Thank God for the secondhand market though!

I'd like to see more 52100, 10xx, D2, 440C, and CPM 154 used on affordable (under $40 ~ $50) production traditionals. :)

I'd also like to see fewer mirror polished stainless steel blades on traditional knives.
They're fingerprint and smudge magnets. :( I've never been fond of fingerprint and smudge magnets, be it a blade or bolster.

Oh yeah, more stainless traditional knives. I forgot that.

I mean, I get why large scale production companies typically run "super" steels a bit on the softer side rather then pushing the limits further, being they are doing more frequent and larger batches, and that gives them a bit more wiggle room all the way around, from consistency to warranty work, it's just more cost effective over the long run, but I would like to see more try to push it a little bit further. I'd like see more (production) HRC's kissing 60+ and less "super" steels getting run at 57-58...

I would also like to see more ELMAX used, it's still my favorite all around at the moment, as well as more high end stainless variety in tradionals.

miso2 miso2 some of us like and want the patina a carbon steel blade developes.
It gives the knife character, and shows the knife is used and loved/cherished by whoever is lucky enough to own it. :)

True.
I do like mine with 1095 to have a character.

I should have said LC200N as a stainless option.
I was hesitant to take my 1095 blade to a beach and took a D2 blade instead.
It would be nice to have a good stainless option on slip joints.

I love the the entire composition of elmax, except the 1.7% carbon just stymies me, ... I get it, high hardness, lots of carbides etc etc... but I don't need edge retention at the price of strength/toughness

I'm just stuck on things like 3v, which stay near the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eutectic point - that's the point
you all can go overdose on carbon all you like, I know when there is such a thing as too much of a good thing ;p

They are fairly similar steels. Have you tried 8Cr13MoV in a reputable knife? Could just be heat treatment differences. That said, given the same knife in either steel, I'd choose 12C27 too.
Yeah, I have. 8cr13mov won't take the fine edge 12c27 will and it doesn't seem as tough so the edge doesn't last as long. 12c27 even responds to a butcher steel like carbon steel will. AUS8 seems better than 8cr13mov as well even though it's supposed to be almost identical.

I still like CPM154 ... Elmax .. S35VN ... in folders and recently found I really love me some M4 also ... and D3V is a top choice for fixed blades other than some good old carbon work horses like 1095 ... 52100 ... or 5160 ... and Winkler's 80CrV2 has performed very well for me ... but I have only ever tried it in Winkler knives ... M390 and AEB-L I am liking on some smaller fixed blades recently.
