Steels?

Keith, I just wanted to make a comment on CPM3V. I don't know how
a forged blade would be. I discussed the subject of forging 3V with
Jay Hendrickson, a couple of years ago,and he said he wanted to try it. I never heard if he did. I made one knife out of 3V and had it heat treated by Paul Bos to an HRC of 61-62. The edge was ground to about .015. My experience was very, very good. The edge holding was
truely outstanding. I think this was because of the edge geometry, hardness, and toughness of the 3V, even at this hardness. I love the
knife, and take care of it as if it was one of my carbon steel knives, so I don't know how easily it rusts.
 
Thanks Don. It actually is one of your carbon steel knives. It doesn't have near enough chromium to be stainless. Some people have told me it rust easily and when it does it pits deeply. No experience myself, this is just what I have heard.
