Gentlemen:
For your consideration is this Tanto in Exhibition Grade Desert Ironwood Burl/CPM-154. I've been wanting to build a tanto for quite awhile but I wanted to build something radically different.....this is what I came up with. I hope you like it! The top of the spine is tapered from the guard halfway down to the tip - the upper primary grind was hollow ground to near zero from the tip to halfway back to the spine. The bottom primary grind was hollow ground to .005" while the front edge was ground a bit thicker to .010" then a 25 degree secondary bevel ground in. The tang extends 2/3 of the way into the handle and is set with G/flex marine grade epoxy and a 1/16" stainless pin.
The primary hollow grounds were ground to 600 grit then buffed to near mirror finish with a cork belt and green chrome buffing compound - the flats are hand rubbed to 600 grit. The bottom of the ricasso is rounded while the top of the spine is flat and tapered half way to the tip. The double guard has a copper and stainless spacer behind it - the copper spacer matches the Desert Ironwood Burl nicely. The butt of the handle is round with a stainless thong liner. The double guard and handle were hand rubbed to 2500 grit and waxed rather than buffed to maintain the color contrast between the marble cake and background of this exquisite piece of Desert Ironwood Burl.
I haven't made a sheath yet so the buyer may specify a Cross Draw or Southern Style sheath with a stud. The first "I'll take it," PM, or email gets this one. $530 delivered CONUS. Paypal preferred to tksteingass@frontier.com. This tanto is also listed on my website. Thanks for viewing and your comments are welcome.
