Stellite 6K question???

Take a strong magnet, tie it to a string, and swing it over the blade perpendicular to the spine. If the swing is interrupted, you have bogus knife. Also try to file the blade in a not too noticeable spot. If the file skates, you've got 6-K.

Thank you all for your good words. I have contacted ebay to be able to ship the knife back to the seller. He would not give me his return address. Wish me luck.

With ebay, more details are better less. Don't assume that the staff know anything about "stainless" or "Stellite". Quote the seller's responses directly and explain why it is so hard to tell the difference between Stellite and stainless steel without a laboratory. If you sound reasonable and detailed, they will side with you.

It's a nice looking knife and sheath. Interesting conundrum. Good luck with it. If it truly was Stellite the knife would be pretty expensive like this one but marking it "stainless" seems confusing. "Morty" should have known better.

Pretty close. Stellite is expensive and not very many knife makers will work with stellite.

Adding to what Mecha said. Certain acids will react and darken Stainless, and Stellite will not.

Just gonna throw this out there...

There's a chance this is legit.

"Morty" has a bunch of other "premium looking" knives from makers I've never heard of for sale, so who knows, maybe the guy is into custom knives...?

Maybe his main business is selling inexpensive seafood knives, but he likes to make Stellite 6K blades in his free time and sell them for $800 on eBay.....?

Not real plausible I guess, but certainly possible....

But yeah, unless you know Morty and know he's legit, $800 is waaaaayyyyy too much to spend on a leap of faith, imho
