Step-by-Step Knifemaking

That's a great book, and one I relied on pretty heavily when I was first learning. Honestly, though, you will get information at least as good in the stickies here and it won't cost you anything but the time to read through it all.

David Boye wrote a simple and basic book. It is a good starter guide. There are some things that are more refined today, buy=t the basic info is great.

I have that book and it has some good information in it. I think the book that helped me the most is "How to make knives" by Bob Loveless

Got that book for my 14th birthday.... Read it cover to cover when the teachers weren't looking ;)

To answer your question, yes it is a very good book. Like the others said, it gives you lots of good information and a few different approaches towards the craft. I would advise you, at the very least, look at the chapters that explain stuff you may need help on (i.e. bevel grinding or applying handle scales).
