Stepchild Becker? The BK12

I hate the stock grivory on my 12. In fact I was very disappointed the first time I held it. However, the blade itself became my favorite to date.

I have #94 I think, it's a fine blade, my only complaint is the balancing thing in the handle is a bit gimmicky.

I can't help but think if it didn't have that balancing system, then the retail/street price would probably be closer to the 2, 7 and 10 and this thing would probably be one of the most popular Beckers.

well it states that the price is higher due to the fact that they are being produced in much smaller quantities.

Took my weights out and set them aside . . . still in the box, I think. And that's where they'll stay.

I agree . . . too gimmicky for me.

But the knife itself . . . a fine piece of work! I like it!

#59 here, good knife, like it but not better than the 10. Scales at least were, Camillus, now who knows. Good knife.

I've got #186 and #345. Gave #469 to my father for his birthday since I saw how much fun he had when he came visit and got to beat on a few of my Beckers.
Amazing knife indeed. Balancing system is a cool Idea but I never used it since I put micarta scales on. The fit and finish of the Rowen blades are outstanding. I would gladly pay $125 for just the blade with no scales and no balancing system if I didn't already have two. That's how much I like the knife. It's worth the extra money in my opinion.

just wanted to bump this thread with pictures of my BK12 with purple heart wood handles. Despite being amazing, it is a looker for sure. Love the dark charcoal blade color with the purple/red/brown wood handles. It feels great in hand. The weight of the wood compensates for taking out the plugs. Probably get a leather sheath to finish up the package. Enjoy!

Thanks for the answer and the link, Mac. Unfortunately I already have one set of Camillus grivory, now it looks like I'll have two. I'm sure that can be remedied.

BK2 is made with 1/4" thick steel, BK12 is made with 3/16" thick steel -- so the extra thickness of the Camillus grivory shouldn't be a problem.
OTOH, kabar micarta is REALLY comfortable on it and the extra weight offsets the loss of the brass weights.

Yeah, except for I'm going by my Camillus BK2, which is near the same thickness as the 12 and it's still too thick for my delicate hands. When I have the 12 in my hands, I'll see if anyone wants to trade for a couple pairs of Camillus Grivory® (or contact me now to secure the deal, you know who you are ;)). Maybe on the micarta; I've still got a bunch of half-finished DIY hardwood scales in the works.

OK, here are a couple of teasers:
,

Fits better in my hand than I thought it would (no...I'm not a lefty), balance feels good with the weights in (I think they're in, haven't checked yet) although not weight forward as I am used to. Really looking forward to playing with this. I have to retract my belief that I need to trade out the scales, these feel pretty good in hand. The sheath seems nice as well; the insert appears to be actual Kydex (or similar) and tapers at the bottom so that the knife doesn't rattle if you push it all the way in. I'll be playing with the Personal Balance system and seeing if I can feel any sort of difference. I'm also going to replace the hardware with stainless; the original has some corrosion already.

All in all, I'm pretty excited - this knife is used, but I think it's just shelf wear, the edge still appears factory and untouched, the blade has a little chip out of the coating (I'll be stripping it anyway, after an electro-etch ;)) and the sheath also appears never to have been carried. It didn't come with a box, but I think I got a pretty good deal on it so I don't really care. I'm trying to take a breather before I give feedback for the seller....It took way longer than it should have for this to get here, and virtually no communication from the seller. I even opened a case this morning trying to get any tracking info, because the knife was supposed to be delivered by the 29th. He'll still get positive feedback, but he's gonna get dinged a little. On another note, the exchange here completely rocks; so far every seller I've dealt with has been great. I would much rather do business here, in a community patrolled environment. On one more note I owe a little shout out to geektechnica for showing and letting me handle his 12 at the Northeast Gathering. The knife had intrigued me just by the looks of it, but having it in hand lit the fire.

Nice score! Your gonna love that knife. And the BK-12's don't come new in a box, just a plastic bag like the Esee knives.

Sorry nathann but my little doggy is better looking lol. Anyways no worries on the mix up guys

So I put the Camillus 2 scales back on my knife, and measured the width of that and my 12. Camillus BK2: ~28 mm; BK12: 26 mm. The 12 is not as slim as my 9 & 7, but still comfortable; the 2 is too much. If I get scales, I'm gonna have to redo the sheath, tho. Anyway, I'm digging the 12.

Cant ya just sew a line down the snap with dental floss and take the slack out?
I don't want to hijack this thread, but since no one else is putting up BK-12 pics......

The Camillus BK-2 came with an actual Kydex ambidextrous sheath....so with the thinner scales, the knife rattles and the sheath almost doesn't retain it. I't have to remold it, which would be difficult because it's ambidextrous and they used a special form to make it.

This is the fit with the original scales. When I figure out what I'm going to have on this for scales, I'll probably just try and make my own sheath. I've done a little Kydex bending, and I'm planning on doing more. I like the original sheath a lot, with one easily remedied exception: the floppy belt loop. Got some ideas, but that'll be a separate thread.

In BK-12 land, I took off the scales last night and the plugs are all there. Put it back together with SS hardware. Plan is to etch the logo and number a little deeper, then strip the blade. Not sure if I'll strip the handle underneath the scales yet. We shall see.
