Stereotypical dad knives

The knife my kids know as “dad’s knife” would be my Sere 2K.

Not stereotypical at all, but when they picture “dad’s knife” I’m sure that’s what they see. They’ve all told me that.

Whatever you carry, your kids will remember as “dad’s knife”, so make it a good one.
I love this knife. I need to pick out one from my small collection and carry it until it looks like this.

Congratulations to you and your wife on your expected baby girl!

I do not really know what I would consider a "Dads Knife". I would think that ruling out tacti-cool or tactical knives would be in order. So-called survival knives too. Include out any hunting knife as well.

Types of knives that would be handy around the house seem appropriate.

SAK models from slim little minimalist to six bladed Models convenient for pocket carry seem about right to me. . . .or perhaps a multi tool.

Another thought might be something that enhances your cachet as the "man-of-the-house". There is a sort of tradition for giving the new mother a gift of jewelry to mark the occasion of the new arrival . With the birth of. girl, why not something a little butch than an SAK . . .something from Chris Reeve? At the jewelry level high end might be something from William Henry.

I myself EDC a Leathermasn Wave Plus. It is always welcome when produced in time of need regardless of the company, from the guys any fish camp to the ladies gathered at my mother-in-law's for tea.

My pop never carried knives, but he spent a lot of time in the kitchen. He hailed from Dover, Ohio, home of Warther Knives, and my pop had a few. They are beautiful knives, with an engine-turned finish. His most used knives were his no-name carbon steel knives, but they sort of bend into the background, while the Warthers are memorable, so that is what I think of as a Dad knife.

My dad passed in 2012. He was born in 1933, retired Air Force and Police officer. Like so many men his age, I never really saw him carry much other than a small stockman like a Buck 303, or an Old Timer 34OT, or something along those lines.
I didn't get any of his edc knives, I am assuming my Mom gave them to my brothers/nephews, etc. But I did dig an old Imperial Kamp King out of his tool box that I will treasure forever.

Thanks that was very kind. I still think about him pretty much every day. If you haven't talked to your Dad lately give him a ring, or swing by. You will never regret it.
I appreciate it buddy, he is a few states away, but we talk all the time. Every conversation is not regrettable. Remembering the lessons she taught me and teaching my mom's lessons to others is very satisfying.
