I would assume the answer is NO, but wanted to ask people with more knowledge and experience than I.

Would or has Busse ever made a Sterile Battle Grade blade? I don't want to buy something labeled as a Sterile coated INFI blade and have it be SR101 (not that SR101 is bad.)

Thanks in advance.

edit: This is the blade in question. Site says that it is Sterile INFI.

From what i know battle grade is all sr-101. Combat grade is infi. Also ive not seen any "sterile" coated blades. Not to say they do nit exist. Ive just never seen one. I have owned unmarked uncoated blades. But never a coated one. Im sure more will chime it. But that has been my experience.

Sterile Battle Grade- NO. Should be zero BG's in the wild. I asked for sterile BG's and was told that because BG's would come out in models already released in INFI, they would all bear the BG logo, no exceptions.

Sterle Combat Grade (INFI)- YES. There are many sterile CG's, and even LE's in the wild.

There have been plenty of sterile coated INFI blades. First one to cross my mind is the DSSF. I don't think there were any sterile BG blades.

That ASH looks like a skinny ASH. Coating looks like normal sage coating. No primary if it's full flat ground. I've seen rough micarta from Busse like that but not on an ASH. What site is that knife posted?

I believe the Mole Jack was sterile coated INFI. I'm sure there were others; military overruns and such.

A couple years ago, Jerry commented on the possibility of Battle Grade knives being passed off as INFI:

We have thought this through during the 15 minutes we were sober in the past 6 months, and here are a couple of things that we came up with.

1.) We will be marking the blades with the SR-101 steel designation.

2.) We will be enlarging either the talon hole or the lanyard hole in order to be able to identify a stripped blade where the logo has been removed.

Let's Drink To The Battle Grade!

I haven't noticed enlarged talon or lanyard holes, but I haven't looked for them either.

Yes there are sterile INFI coated blades, I would want to see more pics of that ASH however. It looks OK but (to my eye - and from a single pics) not quite right.

Talon hole or lanyard hole (can't recall now) on BGs are a different size to CGs as well.

Now ya have. ;) :)

Thank you everyone for the great info. I feel that I can rest assured that it is not a BG being passing off as INFI, since it's not stripped. The question now....is it real. It's being sold by a known custom knife shop, so I would assume that it is a real Busse.....but not being able to see that last hole on the pommel is somewhat troubling.

...No primary if it's full flat ground.

If it's full flat ground, the primary grind is "full flat." To be more specific, I couldn't make out a plunge line between the blade and the ricasso in the fist pic. In the second pic it is visable.

Eta: That vendor is pretty well known and I wouldn't expect them to be fooled. I've never seen an ASH like that though, sorry if I raised a false alarm.

BeastClaw, I recognize the images. Julie has had a crash course in Busse knives, and has even purchased directly from the booth @ Blade before. I'd say it's legit based on her reputation, and the pix. Do ask about the handles...did Busse sand them or the seller? May not matter to you, but it's good info to know about your knife (if you buy it).

Here's a comparison pic

Also just a thought, doesn't that sheath maker on his site mention that knives may be modified for sheath fitment ? I also agree with Jaxx on above
