Sterilize Knife

How do you sterilizing a custom knife blade with alcohol. Do you wipe it, soak it, boil it. How do you sterilizing a blade against unknown blood and DNA, so that it is safe to use to prepare food?

I carry commercial alcohol pads for cleaning and for sterilizing. At home, soap and warm water works fine.
 
My brother just handed me his Kershaw titanium rainbow leek he loves so much that I bought him many years ago. He never even wanted me to sharpen it because he was afraid of messing up the finish, so what does he do? Takes a freaking lighter and torches the ultra thin tip to "sterilize" it. The thing was all yellowed, wow what an idiot!
Never put your knives in fire unless they are disposable!
Fortunately Kershaw replaces blades on those knives for only 10 dollars. Very fair price.
