sterilizing INFI

Let's say your in the middle of nowhere, and you just skinned a deer with your trusty SAR4 and it's the only knife you have at the time. Now let's say you wanted to use this blade for eating as well, would boiling the satin blade to sterilize it do anything to the INFI like discoloring it or messing with the heat treat?

Inquiring INFI minds want to know....

Hmm, this topic sounds familiar:p

Long term use with no soap.....boil it. Especially if the game you last field dressed was fowl. Failing to do so could result in death.

Buy a Guyot Stainless Bottle or a Stainles Pot/Cup (which you should have in your pack anyway).;)

Agree, and for the record I start my cleaning in warm water, scrub off the debris that may be on it, and then bring the water up to a boil. I thought it was common sense to remove crap on the knife before sterilizing; but I see 'common' sense ain't so 'common' anymore!

I'd just soak mine for 1/2 hr in alcohol.

Yes, ethanol would do.;)

[Yes, I'd clean it first...as 1Tracker would.]

How about using ash from a campfire - scouring action and caustic at the same time.

Or boil the ash up with some animal fat and make a basic soap... chuck the knife in at the same time :)
