Sterling silver folding Buck knife

This is the knife I have. Mine is new, in the original packaging and has not been engraved. Would love to know how many were made, are these rare or collectible? any info would be most appreciated.

Appreciate the information. I researched the New England Silver Company a bit and they have done work for Tiffanys. Yes, I agree that the adornment has been done "after market" and is an overlay not solid sterling. I will look up the numbers you provided. THANKS!

Thanks David! Hard to tell from your photo but my knife looks similar to a knife in the box second on the left, 3rd from the top but it is impossible to be sure.

Your's is similar but only because it used the same base knife. Here's a couple of pictures of the same model knife that you refer to in David's display. It's a Classic II, model 510, also based on the 500. It has solid aluminum scales (handles) with exposed rivets and a mirror polished blade.

This may be a bit off topic but I'm very curious. I'd like to see a photo of the spine of the knife to see how it's constructed. The smaller Sterling models that were produced for or by Buck were based on the 525 Gent which had simple slab sides which would be easy to add a layer of silver on top of. The 500 however isn't that simple. The two sides of the frame are cast/sintered stainless steel, rounded at the bosters and with a recess for the handle material.

They would either have had to produce flat sided frame halves with out the bolsters and recess or machine the side flat in some way in order to add the overlays of Sterling. Can someone take and post a close up picture of the spine of the knife?

Here's a couple of pictures of the same year 500 to illustrate what I'm describing.

Plumber, I know what your referencing but the handle material for the sterling should be different as electro plated sterling may not adhere well to stainless. This could be a separately done model. Plus, didn't we determine some time back that the Duke did not follow the normal pattern of going to a nickel silver frame. DM

Sorry David, that's not what I mean at all. What I mean is, that it's easy to attach an overlay sheet of engraved Sterling to the slab sided 525's. It's not so easy to do the same with the 500 because it doesn't have the flat sides. It makes no difference what the base material of the knife is, they aren't plating it with silver, they are adding an overlay sheet of silver using some sort of adhesive.

To illustrate what I'm talking about, here's a couple of pictures. This one is an example of the little one's Buck put out. The second picture shows the overlays that are attached to the stainless steel scales. Each overlay is marked "AFC .925".

Hi PBD,

The knife I posted photo's of is the same knife that is in question here. The op also shows the box it came in, on post #16. These knives are made just the same way as your 525, thin sheet of scroll engraved .925 silver. When I got the knife a big smile hit my face; wow this must be $200 worth of silver alone :) then I looked at the side and the silver value dropped to about $10:(.
