Steve Likarich knife. Looking for more info!

You need a gold membership or better to ask the value of items on this forum.

No harm no foul. I unfortunately do not know anything about the maker.

I could make some stuff up if you're in the mood for a good story.

Haha. No thanks. Should I just delete this? Where can I post to try to learn more. Thanks

Maybe try changing the subject title of the post to take out the part about the value. Just change it to Steve Likarich knife, Trying to learn more info about it!

Unfortunately alot of members will see that the person who made the post is not a gold member and see the subject of the thread and say "I can't give a value anyway so I'm not going to post" If you remove anything about looking for a value in the subject then people will step forward more to give you better information about the knife.

It is a beautiful knife too. Reminds me alot of the Alan Folts Minimalist line up for some reason.

did that for ya

Hi,
Steve made some rather nice knives and if you do a simple google search there is a fair amount of info on him and also about the knife he made for the movie LONG KISS GOODNIGHT.

I have a rather long, ring fighter with sculpted burl handles by Steve that was in one of the older KNIVES annuals. His fit and finish was pretty high.

I shot these for Steve when I was the show photographer at the Santa Barbara custom knife show in April of 2009. Didn't know he'd passed. Sorry to hear it. These were excellent knives - very clean and refined. Wish I could provide more info about him.

440C and ATS-34 if memory serves. He made all of his knives using files and sandpaper. His prices were very high, those pieces that Buddy posted from Santa Barbara were around 3k iirc.

Funny thing about Buddy shooting at Santa Barbara. Eric Eggly cancelled on Steve D'Lack at the last minute because he had a photo shoot for Converse, potentially leaving the show without an official photographer...which would have been a shame, because there were some truly great knives in the room, and anyone interested can read my show review in the Archives.

Buddy stepped up, on almost no notice and did a fantastic job. The behavior Eric displayed caused me to lose almost complete respect for him, and left me humbled/awed by Buddy's Herculean efforts and coming through at the last minute.

Have never wavered on either position.

Best Regards,

this comment is a little troubling, imo
Why, Lorien? It's the truth.

I never said anything publicly while Eric was a knife photographer as I didn't want to have a negative impact on his business.

This did not stop me from tattooing Eric's son Cameron gratis at Josh Smith's hammer-in either, simply because he asked me to. I had previous friendship and requests from Erik Fritz and Wade Colter that were granted at the same show that were planned and given out of love.

He doesn't shoot knives as his core profession anymore....where is the harm?

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

in praising someone for their work, it somewhat diminishes that praise when you knock someone else down- particularly when you specifically question the very integrity of the person you've chosen as foil

this forum is not tightnit group of people having candid discussions, it's open to any and all who end up here. Although Eric may no longer photograph knives professionally he may still have to work for a living. It's not a stretch to think that someone seeking out information regarding him might stumble in here, read what you wrote and make decisions that might negatively affect the guy

also, it's somewhat dirty pool to bring someone's name up and disparage them for past deeds when it's fairly apparent that the person will have no idea you're slagging them and therefore no recourse in addressing said disparagement

fair warning; I'll be editing this thread later so we can be back on topic

I violated no rules Lorien.

You don't have to like it, but when you edit content because you disagree with it....that's crap...and it's also a hallmark of weakness.

Lorien, I'm not sure I understand your concern. Are you disputing that Eric cancelled an event to take on a bigger client? I don't respect that behaviour either. It's different if the concern was subjective, but it isn't. There was also a thread a few years back where a sword was photographed, and the pics were terrible. That is objective too. Everyone could see that it was a take the money and run situation. As an amateur videographer, I could see multiple things wrong with the pics, and a professional definitely would know better.

...which is why there were no infractions issued

I think I was pretty clear about the rationale behind my concern. Choosing to edit out content that calls into question the integrity of a person not active in the forum is not just about 'disagreeing' with it, (although I do find that kind of thing distasteful). That being said, I'll leave this be, (so as not to appear WEAK!) and get back to other things related to modding, like answering the pms telling me how flawed a moderator I am, lol

it bears pointing out that there is a forum specifically designed for the airing of grievances regarding people in this business. If people prefer that we include that kind of dialogue in this forum, then I guess that is what it is. I personally don't think that will help this forum become more inclusive and interesting, but I can certainly start turning a blind eye to all this stuff and focus solely on moving threads to shoptalk and deleting spam, which is what consumes most of my time anyway
