Sticker residue on blade

Hate to bring this back up as the problem was already solved BUUUT...

I completely forgot about methyl hydrate but this stuff works so well. We used to use it in mass amounts when I worked in tool & die. Just fantastic stuff all around.

You can pick it up real cheap at Home Depot.

Methyl Hydrate. Cheapest solution you will find. Also good for pickling insects if you are an entymologist, in which case it will cost nothing as you will already have some, I bet.

Stick with the WD-40 or Goo Gone. I'm sure some things suggested here will do the job, but consider the OVERKILL potential. Consider toxicity and flammability, versus the relatively small task at hand.

I use the Goo Gone. It's actually made for this purpose, works just fine. Soak the end of a Q-tip with it, apply it to the affected area. Wait a minute or two, then wipe it away. Use a little bit of Windex to clean whatever oily residue might be left. Very simple, very safe. Little risk of toxicity issues, and you won't blow up your house.

Methyl hydrate is also known as methanol. Home Depot sells denatured alcohol, which is 10% methanol and 90% ethanol. I have never seen straight methanol offered for sale there. It is very dangerous stuff due to low odor, high toxicity, and it easily crosses the skin barrier (small molecules).

A nonpolar solvent like mineral spirits or naphtha will remove most labels and tape residue better than alcohol will. A final wipe with alcohol is good to clear the slight greasy residue once the main stuff is removed.

Alcohol, goo-gone, gas, acetone, nose grease, used motor oil, butter, scouring pad and soap, just soap, dishwasher.

If that is the same product basically as goof off, I'd watch out if the blade has a coating. That stuff eats through A LOT.
Ditto with Brasso. But damn does it get the gunk off after I've been cutting tape all day with my blade.

Yeah,I wondered how the metal polishing products like Brasso,Fritz,Wenol and Semi Chrome did on removing tape residue..It's nice to know that it can tackle the task, after hard days work. The first time,I ever heard of it being used was from one of the Spydie Guy videos on youtube.

In my experience Kroil penetrating oil will separate anything from anything with a little patience. Wear chemical gloves, as it causes long pain on flesh. (It is actually meant for rusty bolts, filthy guns, etc.).

Uh oh. I've been cleaning revolvers with it, bare handed. I must have gotten away with it, though.

It is like WD-40 on Steroids.:o

Get some Oops!

It works great on adhesive residue. It will even remove Sharpie Marker ink, just be careful with plastics.

"Oops! is the fast working remover for home, garage and shop. Oops! effectively lifts off dried varnish and paint, tar , ball point pen, marker, gum, lipstick, tree sap, graffiti, asphalt, wax and many other sticky gooey messes. oops! can be used on hard surfaces such as vinyl, wood paneling, woodwork, fiberglass, metal and glass surfaces, laminate and more"

peanut butter.

+1

Before you clean your blade with stuff that you don't particularly want on your hands, food (e.g., peel an apple), nylon/nylatron washers, handle materials, etc.; go ahead and try the peanut butter. It really works. It's taken off every goo/gunk I've encountered since I started using it 10+ years ago.

This is the stuff right here:

Home Depot Canada by the way, I don't know what they have on the shelf across the border.
