Hey guys ...long time no talk..have new baby and no time lol. Just wondering if anyone has heard of this stuff and what the consensus is on quality and how well it holds and so on compared to say devcon which is what I'm used to.
Mike:)

I don't know...the bottle says "stickfast" on it. I saw it on ebay while perusing scales and they claim it is a great glue for knifemaking. I hadn't heard of it so I thought I'd check with you guys. Apparently it sets in 15 seconds and is "great" for knife handles...I am skeptical at this point....but it would be nice to have something you could work right away...although,.. good things come to those who wait....

Just curious..what do you use for glue Bruce. So far I have found devcon to be the best but I am going to experiment with some accra glass as well sometime soon.

For full tang knives I clamp the scales on first and use thin super glue to wick in all around the edges. A cool thing about super glue is it tends to reflect any color its next to especially black.
For hidden tangs I use JB weld and sometimes accra glass. I usually use black spacer material so I color the epoxy black. If I use several spacers stacked up I preglue them with super glue and install them as an assembly.

Hope this makes sense.

That technique is very interesting! I have never heard anyone else doing that.
You wick in CA around pins? Any ole CA work or do you use a particular brand?

Any brand will work although the Handi-bond seems to be good stuff. Yes wick it in around all the pins and/or bolt heads.

The trouble with epoxy is it is so thick that it cant all sqeeze out and often times leaves an ugly line even if your fit was perfect.

Handi-bond also sells de-bonder for easy cleanup in front of the bolsters.

Bruce,
You use superglue for full tang? I didn't think it would hold scales tight to the tang over long periods. Very interesting. I've seen your sight and you definitely know what's goin on with knifemaking. I will experiment because I do find epoxy messy and thick to work with. My fit is quite good however I have found epoxy fails sometimes....even if the surface is perfectly clean, flat and I have scratched the heck out of the scales and tang for adhesion purposes. Most of the time there are no problems but even stabilized scales can warp a bit sometimes through continuous use (ex. kitchen knives). Maybe it's just the way she goes sometimes.:D
