So, I went to a local knife shop I found yesterday to look at a ZT0560 he had in stock. The guy had 5 of them in stock. None of them flipped open really easily. In fact one only moved about an inch out then stuck. I have a ZT0350 and it flips open lightning fast and did so right out of the box. Does this sound normal? I asked him and he said they just needed adjusted. I am really interested in this knife, but a little worried now because none of these opened. I have watched YouTube videos and they all opened similarly to my ZT0350. Would love some input cause I want one of these things wicked bad. :D

My 0560 was so hard to open when I got it that my wife had to use 2 hands. However I just kept flicking it over and over and over and eventually it got smoother. Now the knife flicks better than any of my knives. I think it just needed some time to break in and let the detent and other parts shape to each other

I think he probably would. He works on knives there as well. Just had me a little worried since my ZT0350 opened so easily the first time right out of the box. @chivilryman2: how do you like it? Would you buy again?

You can't compare the feel to the 350. The 350 is assisted so once you break the detent, torsion takes over.

They likely just need to be broken in.

I love it, it kicked everything else out of my Pocket. I've actually been looking at getting a second one because I like it so much. Even the difficulty in opening it didn't make me not like it. I prefer a strong detent rather than something that opens in my pocket

I was at my local gun shop and I was looking at a 560 as well. The flipper deployment was flawless but when I tried the thumbstuds it felt like the blade was glued to the frame and it would not deploy.

wont stop me from buying it but can anyone else comment on that as well?

I own a 0560 and a 0561. The 0560 was flawless out of the box, while the 0561 was not. I have taken both knives completely apart and flushed all the ZT grease out of them and replaced it with Miltec. They now flip open with little to no effort. They do take some adjusting...but once that's done...there isn't another non assisted production knife like them. (imo anyways) Adjusting the pivot was also super easy...when I tightened the knife up, I stop turning the pivot screw when the last of the blade play went away and the blade was centered.

Haha - yeah with the Thumb-studs (on both my 0561 and my 0551) you have to push up, not out and it takes a little bit of flicking it open to wear it in perfectly (though my 0561 was never anything but buttery smooth, the detent is now broken-in nicely).

I'm sold now... Was just a little curious as to why they were so hard. One of them went almost all the way and clicked with a little flip of the wrist, but one barely moved. Sounds like a great knife though. Will be picking one up after work today. :)

This.

Deathbyfire-I don't think you'll go wrong with the 560, Mine had me worried when I first bought it, I thought that all the hype I read about it was BS, but after opening it a bunch and it getting broken in, it's awesome!!!! I'm looking forward to buying a 561 when they start getting available. Enjoy the new 560 if you buy it.

in Canada here most knife shops get their knives with the pivots tightened down to make sure they make it through customs, every knife from my local dealer has a tight pivot and i just adjust it in the store before i buy it, then fine tune it as it breaks in at home. Shouldnt be an issue, you should have a driver anyways to make those adjustments if you are into knives right! so no big deal.. buy it!

As said you cant compare a 560 with a 350. The 350 has a torsion bar that aids in the deployment of the blade. A 560 has bearings in the pivot and a stronger detent yet has no or torsion bar whatsoever. It is quite possible that a couple of the pivots were too tight but if properly adjusted these knives are as fast or even faster than an automatic. But the only caveat is there is a technique to deploying the blades in a way that will get them to snap with authority. The best way I can describe it is to build up energy on the flipper by stiffening your finger almost like how you build up energy in you fingers if you are going to snap them. A good way to do this is to actually apply force to the flipper in the opposite direction or in towards the handle so that your building energy but not moving the blade. Then when you have as much energy built up as you can develop redirect the direction of said energy and the blade will fly out with authority. A couple things you need to understand

1. The thumbstuds are not really designed to open this knife. Its is designed with using the flipper. The thumbstuds shouldnt really be looked at as such and rather as a blade stop for lock up.

2. Another thing that can screw up a good deployment are your other 3 fingers when your firing the knife. If your have a iron death grip on the knife and those fingers are on the lockbar you are actually pushing the detent forcefully into the blade and this can either prevent the blade from opening or it can actually slow the blade after its deployed. There is a small learning curve with these knives but once you master it you probably will like them more than an assisted knife. Especially since there are no torsion bars to wear out.

Picked it up on the way home. Love this thing. I got the smoothest one he had. What a knife. Unfortunately he showed me the ZT0303 while there so my next purchase may already be a done deal. :)

I don't even have to use any wrist action to open my 560,it came from the factory that smooth. I love it!
