Stider Pt. Thoughts?

I have been looking at the Strider PT for a while now and was thinking about getting one. Strider has always intrigued me and the smaller satin finish folder has a strong appeal for me. I am not a fan of the camo blade finish. Plain is all I want. I own a small Sebenza and love it, but would like this as well.

What are your opinions of this knife?

Does anyone own a small Sebenza and a Strider Pt who could show pics next to each other?

Should I be worried about issues with consistency of production? I have read posts where people had trouble with knives they bought. However, some people swear by Strider knives. What do you think?

After a brief search, I have found them for $300. Is that fair. Do they go cheaper. I am willing to wait a little for a good price.

No cheaper anywhere new, only goes up from 300. I have both small sebenza and PT. I use the PT for office carry where folks go nuts if you carry anything besides a toothpick. I use my Sebenza on evenings and weekends. The Sebenza is more utilitarian as it has more cutting surface. Sebenzas are perfect, Striders can be iffy, quality wise but man are they cool, and sturdier than anything else you can reasonably expect to find. With the finger choil in the Strider, you end up with just over 2 inches of blade cutting surface, so take that into consideration, Sebenza 3 inches. Both will last your lifetime and several generations of legacy. Both are super knives, cant go wrong with either, just buy what you want.

Yes poor quality control is a huge issue for them. I had to wait 2 1/2 months for them to fix a PT that came all messed up. The whole time they blew off many emails and phonecalls. Then they told me they fixed things that weren't even fixed. When I got the knife back and emailed them about the issues not being fixed they went back to their not responding strategy. I had to experience it to see that the complaints people were talking about Strider were true .

Don't waste you money on Striders and their signature QC and CS. Get a Small Sebenza. They beat Strider PTs by a mile. You won't never hear any of the consistant complaints you hear about Strider, about CRK. In fact you will hear constant praise usually because they are great knives. Strider's have a good design and HT of their S30V but they're so inconsistant or just plain poor in other areas that it far outweighs their benefits.

+1, same for me.
watch the video posted in my signature below, it features a pt and there is a small sebenza in there for size reference.
Love the pt, love the sebenza.

I LOVE my PT! I have a Ranger green & stone washed blade. It is one of my favorite small knives.

I would try to handpick one since I've had some trouble with their quality control. If you get a good one, it's excellent. I bought 2 SnG knives online and they both had to go back to the shop for warranty work right after I opened the box.

yeah sebenzas are perfect.

except for the crappy thumb studs, the handle being too short and a weak detent.

how many striders have you even had? mine is fine, and lots of people have them and have no problems. but you talk as if your ONE experience defines the ENTIRETY of strider ownership.

Im sorry but it's blatant that you are just trolling. if you had read the first **OOOPSY** post, you would know the guy already has a small sebenza. clearly you only came in this thread to dump on strider knives like you do in EVERY thread about strider. do you honestly believe that you are contributing or what?

I have owned two sebenzas and I sold both. didnt like them. but I dont go into every damn CRK thread and say the OP should just buy a strider.

I have a PT-CC and love it. Perfect knife to carry when the situation calls for something subtle and classy.

That's been my experience. If it upsets the fanboys not my problem because it's the truth.

I am willing to give Strider the benefit of the doubt, although I have heard reports of suspect quality. Seems ridiculous I should worry for the price though. I don't have a place to pick one out. I live in NY, south of Syracuse and have never even heard of a store around me that carries these types of knives. Spyderco constitutes fanciest you can buy here. The PT cc looks great. I like the smooth G10 and without the clip, it will fit nicely in the pocket slipit I got recently.
Saw one on Knife Art. Reputable? Good price at $300?

I gave my opinion and experience with the company and knife he asked about. So yes I'm contributing to the thread. Pretty simple really.

I have many CRK and have had almost no issues. The one instance I did have an issue, they emailed me many times with updates , Mr. Reeve even called me personally to explain in detail the issue, what caused it, and what he did to corrct it, plus shipped it back to me for free.

I have had 3 striders. The SMF was used, all I did was reprofile it to a more normal 20 degree and its an awsome knife. You do have less of an edge compared to other knives, but its the way its designed. I love everything about the strider designs, they do indeed make tough knives..........................I have had 2 SNG's and they were NIB ( new in bag ) and they were completely awful. Uneven blade grinds, off center blades, one was so bad it cut into the G-10, scratches like you would not believe. And to top it off, I never got a responce from them after emailing them and calling them for weeks straight. I ended up selling them in the end. Plus, if Strider sends you a NIB strider and there is an issue they charge you $15 for shipping it back to you. Not a good policy for someone shipping you a defective product in the first place.

I feel I can speak freely about both CRK & Strider because I have and have had both. I have had nothing but great experience with CRK. With Strider, only 1 of the 3 I have owned was good. If Strider would take a little more care with their quality, fit & finnish, and for Gods Sake Improve Their Customer Service, they would sell alot more knives. I know the excuse is that they were made for military applications and its okay if they are scratched and scuffed. May I ask you this ? Would you buy a new car o anything new for that matter if it was all scratched and scuffed ??? I'll bet the majority of people say "NO". If its was a $40 knife, you would not hear many complaints, but with a $300-$500 knife, your going to hear about it !!!

As for the PT, it looks like an awsome little knife. I have thought about getting one over the years, but with my bad strider experiences, I have passed. My advise would be to look for a good used one. Ask for lots of pics ( blade centered, grinds, lock, etc. ) There are good PT's out there, just like my SMF

Here's a pic of a PT next to a small sebbie (with a Buck thrown in for good measure).

The PT is a great little knife.

I think the fact that he was pissed off enough to spend the time to give his experience shows that he was VERY unsatisfied. You were unsatisfied with your sebenzas and simply sold them off because they werent for you. You had no problems that needed fixing. If you had, you would have had good communication and service. Strider gets haters because really bad service breeds haters. I think strider knives are really cool, and would love to have one one day, but Ill admit, they need to work on their CS. No doubt they can make great knives however.

Great Post, That Says It ALL !!!

so his response is to post in every thread about strider that the OP should buy a CRK instead.

is that justified? partly, sure. is it mature? far, far from it. constructive? in this case, demonstrably not.

Most of the responces so far have answered the questions the OP has. He already owns a small sebenza and loves it, as he stated. He asked: "Should I be worried about issues with consistency of production? I have read posts where people had trouble with knives they bought. However, some people swear by Strider knives. What do you think?"...... So by posting a negative experience about strider is answering the questions he asked. I think they are great knives ( IF you happen to get a good one ). If I see a post of someone asking what they think of strider, I tell them of my experience ( good with the 1 SMF; bad with the 2 SNG's ). I made an $800 mistake with the SNG's and the company would not even respond. Times are tough, I dont wanna see someone make the same mistake I did. By no means is posting an opinion "trolling" if others disagree with it.

I have heard some dealers will thoroughly check them out for you if asked and send you a " good " one. I bought both of mine directly from strider thinking they would be good !!!

Would you have a problem with him if he had a good experience with Strider and posted about it in every Strider thread?

By no means is posting an opioin "trolling" if others disagree with it.

by itself, it is not.

his behaviour clearly is. he didnt even bother to read the first post, which shows he came in this thread only to bash strider.

someone needs to help me understand why CRK owners feel the need to constantly say negative things about strider, but strider fans seem to not get up in anyone else's face.

sorry about your experiences. but I wouldnt compare the way you are sharing your opinion with the way steelsnob "shares" his. you are respectful and on topic, and I would hope you would not just defend a troll because he has the same opinion you do.

Would you have a problem with him if he had a good experience with Strider and posted about it in every Strider thread?

if he went about it in the same way, absolutely. it's not about his opinion. of course this is more about someone being negative than positive anyway. if you want to dump on something fine, but here wave a person who takes literally every opportunity he gets to promote CRK over strider. not really good behavior, imo.

btw dont take me for being a great big strider fanboy or w/ever. Yes I do like them. I own exactly *one* strider knife and it is my only edc knife. I decided that I can only use one folder at a time so I sold off most of the knives I owned except for a few that were given as gifts for birthday/christmas. I figure, why not use the knife I personally like the best out of every one I have ever owned? Got no reason to carry anything else for any reason, especially since it's a good half inch below the legal blade length limit.

Im trying to get an xm-18. if it's better, Ill sell the SnG. But out of CRK, spyderco, benchmade, kershaw, etc the only knife that has even come close is the sebenza and I decided ultimately I liked the Stider better.
