Stiff Lockbar 0561 ? [Problem Solved]

I still don't understand why people flip it open hundreds of times for no reason and get mad.... you don't think something would change on your car if you just open and closed the door 500 times for no reason... And I don't care what knife you have, if you drop it on Concrete of course something is going to happen to the blade.

I was more concerned that when I dropped the knife it was closed. It hit the ground, opened and still put two nicks in the edge. How it exactly hppened, I dont know. I do know that I can drop every other knife I own on the ground and they will not open. Its not like I opened it pointed the tip at the ground and dropped it.

I was under the impression thst most ti frame/liner locks that are sticky will often wear a bit and seat themselves correctly against the blade? At least that what many people on bf say. It seems to be the case with most knives. This k ife seems to go back and fourth between being sti ky and smooth. Today its great and I can actually enjoy using it when working correctly. Hopefully the stickness has passed.

The detent doesnt seem extra weak or anything so I decided not to send it for warranty since I dont plan on dropping it on the ground too often lol. I was just surprised it opened.

I flip it open over and over for to break it. I drop my aegis mini all the time and nothing happens to the blade really. Its black so maybe a soft scratch in the black coating but the integrity is still there.

I just got my ZT0560 today, and had a real hard time trying to unlock it with my right hand thumb, but could do it fairly easily with my left thumb... I noticed the part of the black G10 scale rising up above the liner, thinking that this was not helping to get my right thumb where it needed to be to push the frame lock off of the blade.

I thought maybe I had received an 0560 with a "defective" G10 scale... so I checked a few YouTube videos and saw that the "defect" was a normal part of the G10 scale.

I found this thread, and tried using my index finger like "freewheeling" suggested (post #23), and that works pretty good.

Glad to see that others noticed the "overhang" of the G10 scale, and eliminated it... I will probably do this as well.

I will also apply a bit of "moly" to the lock/knife contact point... I have a supply of moly that I use on my spring-piston airguns, and its a great lubricant... then I'll flip it open countless times while watching TV.

I recently purchased some "Quick Release" lubricant, and have been using it on various knives... but will wait until I play with the 0560 for a few days.

I'm starting to like this knife a lot more than I did an hour ago !

PS... by the way, for someone using a Sharpie, you can pull the felt tip out a bit with some pliers or tweezers, far enough to reach the knife's contact point... I tried that, but decided I will us the "moly".

I think the main issue is that the lock up is never consistent so it's more than just an issue with stiffness when thinking about it. In my first post I mentioned if opened very lightly the lockbar is usually around 35%-%40, but normal lock up is around 50-60 and when opened hard its about at 70%. The 50-70% giving it the highest chance to be impossible to disengage without finding something metal nearby to pry it open.

So my question is, are those who's folders work perfectly, getting the same consistent lock up % each time? If so then I clearly have an issue more than stiff a stiff lockbar. Thanks.

Is the pivot screw on the knife loose at all? if so then you could have 0 perceivable play when the knife is open but have issues with the lockbar not engaging. Some people try to keep the pivot loose on bearing flippers thinking it will make them faster. But if you keep it too loose you have enough wiggle room that when the lockbar moves over the blade will shift as well giving you varying degrees of lockup. Having a knife engage 50-70% isnt really abnormal. It will happen if comparing a hard flip to a soft one. But a tighter pivot can help prevent shifting of the blade when it locks up. Seriously though, if its not to your satisfaction simply send it in. They have warranty second to none.

If mods want to close this thread then by all means. My problem has been solved a long time ago.

Like many said it just had to be broken in and I was being a nervous nelly, now it's the smoothest knife to unlock, no tricks with sharpie or pencil were really necessary for me.

My only fake concern now at the moment is that the lock bar has "settled" at a 80-90% late lock up, but for many that's a plus. Hell many knives come with full lock up, so it's all good. It's a scary solid knife :)

Glad to here your problem is solved.

As others have said in the past, maybe update your title (Edit, Advanced). This can help with future search's. Additionally as the OP, you can lock the thread as well. We're cool.
