Alright, so I've considered quite a few knives to compliment a Hatchet + Fallkniven S1 (may remove from setup) + SAK combo for hiking/biking/camping/etc in Idaho, and also probably to EDC.

I've looked at RAT RC-3s, almost pulled the trigger. Still unsure.
BRKT knives like the Mini-Canadian, Canadian Special, etc, but they are just too expensive (well, I could afford it, but they're too expensive for what they offer, maybe? Canadian Special seems a bit too big (I could be wrong) and the Mini Canadian is just too small.)

What would be ideal is a knife just like the BRKT Mini-Northstar but in A2, O1, D2, or M2 (etc) steel. I love the design and size. Preferably around $100-150. What knives are out there that I haven't considered?

I'm shying away from the Mini-NS and Bird and Trout due to them using 12C27, which I hear is very similar to AUS-8 steel, which I've been unimpressed with. I also really want something in tool steel too add to my collection :(

12c27 that bark river uses is awesome Mike stewart does an excellnt job heat treating his blades...if you opt for a stainless knife it is hard to go wrong with that... also fallkniven f1 or wm1 might be worth considering..if you are sold on carbon... than I'd look at kellam knives... and for around that same price you can contact Bryan breeden and have him make you a sweet custom to spec.

How about a SwampWarden !

This JK would he right in your price range, 01 steel 4 inch blade with a hell for sturdy Sheath. This one is 1/8 inch thick and about 1 1/4 inches tall. Check out the wood.:D

Interesting, will check out the SwampWarden..

Does anyone have in-hand pics of the Candian Special, SwampWarden, and RC-3? Maybe with something to scale it?

Another great choice, The Helle Harding. Tripple Laminated Steel ,4 inch Blade, Curly Maple handle, about 65-80 dollars. Made in Norway.

I'm sorry but... I hate knives that look like Moras. I have been very unimpressed with them in the past, I more prefer blades and tang designs like the Canadian Special or Mini-North Star

The JK knives are full tang as are the Helle's. However if your stuck on the BRKT then buy one.

I actually do like that JK, that post hadn't been made between me reading and making a new post :x

Looks very nice, is there one with a bit thinner blade? Hopefully the following will help show what dimension of 'thin' I mean...:

is thinner than

________

if that makes sense? :x

JK knives are great. John can hook you up with 3/32, 1/8, 3/16 thickness and has alot of differant options to choose from that fit into your price range. He uses O1 steel, and has a wide variety of handle materials, or no handles so you can cord wrap.

John is a great guy to deal with too, and his work is awesome. He even does really tough leather sheaths for his blades.

heres a pic of a few differant models, but john can make you just about whatever you want.

Or you could wait on the RAT Izula. It is alot like the swampwarden Pit posted, and is very cool:cool:

The Bark River Woodland can still be found for under $90 in micarta. Around $110 for some of the more exotic slabs. All are A2.

Ohhh, I like this one. Where else can you get BRKTs from? Only reputable places I know of are DLT Trading and KnivesShipFree.com - both of them have it for $120 and up, even with the more standard handles

Don't forget that at KSF, it's the "at your door" price, no shipping. Not to mention that Derrick will have it at your door in about 2 days. He ships super fast.

Another one you might consider is Gossman's PSK. Sized to be small enough to easily carry but big enough to do serious work. Scott has gotten making the convex edge down cold. 0-1 or A2 steel at a very reasonable price. Mine is in my top three favorite knives.

Good call mike. My PSK is my favorite blade. Scott does these up good. Everyone shold own at least 1.

Some great suggestions already and I agree with the JK, Swamp Warden, and PSK. Another you should consider is a Breeden PSKK or Pathfinder. Both are within your price range and Bryan is a great guy to do business with.
