Still one of my favorites, Benchmade 740

The 740 made it's first appearance 2007 catalog:

Thanks for the link.
Being in the 2007 catalog would most likely have put it on the shelves in early 2008.
The locking liner being made from Titanium is a crucial bit of information that should have been read before some of those famous people online made those silly comments about the lock looking weak, etc. (I'm thinking NF et al here.) Those videos are still fun to watch, but you have to remember that they are only opinions of folks that may not have done proper research into what they were talking about.

So true, Kinda makes you want to go back and show these people what they predicted and ask them now what they have to say? Also puts in prospective the value of all these utube "experts" opinions we hear repeated so often, in many cases repeated as fact.

I like nf's videos but only to see the knife. I turn off the sound when I watch them. He gives a long hard look at the actual knife and that's all I'm interested in.

BTW Great catalog that year!

Good thing to keep catalogs from past years. Questioned by my wife who asks 'd'you really need all of them?' the answer is always yes. Again, looking at advice on YT is entertaining sometimes, but holding the knife and getting to know the thing is nearly always more fruitful in any conversation.

I completely agree with everything said about youtube 'experts'. In this case, spending money on this knife was going to be done without ever having seen or held it. To be honest I am still not sure if I love or hate the Lum design - so when I asked here I most certainly wanted some first hand perspectives on the comments made by NF - which I received gratefully. Straight up, if there had been a common negative theme, I would have left it..

Hopefully it should arrive tomorrow and everything will be settled In my mind. If I don't like it, I will place it up for trade :-)

Anyways... if NF got around to designing a knife, I am certain it would be a marvelous lump of jimping and tactical backup excellence. I would buy two, because that is what is important

NF aside, let us know here what your impressions are after you handle it awhile, then again later if you decide to use it.
One thing for certain, you can always get your money back if you determine you don't like it. I rather doubt that will happen. ;)

I shouldn't diss old NF.. I have come to appreciate his style. I respect the sheer volume of reviews he gets through and they do make it easier to get to understand products I wouldn't otherwise be able to view. I like that he likes Kershaw and Benchmade products - for some reason these are the two makers I seem to drift toward.
