Still REAPING in the AUS8 sell off!

Just picked up this bad boy RECON 1 for a song! This knife just melted in to my hand like it was made for it! The Bowie Blade was razor sharp out of the box! Easiest opening cold steel knife I've bought and the back lock was easy also! I put a spare chrome pocket clip on because I couldn't get it in pocket with the stock one! All in all I love the knife!

WOAH MAN! You know what is the shocker? I believe you actually got the CTS-XHP version, NOT the AUS8A one. Look at the coating, it's the new DLC. You probably got the 2014 version or some of the very first batch when CS still did not mark their blade CTS XHP. Just look at the blade tang where the lockbar rub against, if it's black, then congrats for the steal.

It's black! I guess 49 bucks was a good deal?

I thought the coating looked different! It's almost like a rifle bluing, not an actual coating!

Congrats again, definitely a XHP version you got, even better, this is an unmarked version and probably one of the first batch they did. Yeah the rifle bluing-ish surface is what the DLC looks like, and since it's so thin, it takes the surface finish of the blade, so you can still see the grind lines under the coating. Also, you can tell that under most light conditions the DLC coating looks slightly brownish, while the old teflon coating is pure black and noticeably thicker. Also, for the new version the coating covers the entire blade, while the old version is uncoated in the round tang that contacts the lock bar. You dont have to worry about DLC coating at the tang rubbing off since it's harder than steel.

The river site had a Recon 1 AUS8A PE clip point for $225 from some non river site seller. He must be hoping for some fools because only a moron would pay that much when a new CTS-XHP version can be had for under $100.

BUT..... They aren't making those any more!

Yeah we must have moved on from the cheaper than dirt phase to the some of the last models ever made with the the great aus8 steel get yours now before it's too late phase!

I just rediscovered cold steel after running the gamut and realizing a $180 trailmaster will work just as well for my needs as a $800 busse for example. no need to spend all this money on something that will be used as a tool and not a grail i cant afford to buy grails and keep them for shts and giggles i need affordable tools that can take a beatin and keep on lickin
