Still Shopping for a Smaller Lockblade--Under 3 Inches

I GUESS it depends on where you measure the blade. If nothing else, I guess that along with the Delica, you COULD also carry a copy of the page that the Delica is on, in the Spyderco catalog, where Spyderco states that the FRN Delica HAS a 3" blade.:).

That's true. I measured it from the top of the handle to the tip. Unfortunately, it's been my experience that that's where most security guards and LEO's measure it. Not the cutting edge where it should be measured. :(

Check out the Spyderco Dragonfly. The blade is 2.25" long, the cutting edge is 1.875", and it's excellent design and ergonomics give it more effective cutting power than other longer-bladed knives. My Dragonfly is SS serrated.

I know it's not on your list of possibles, but have you considered the Kershaw/Ken Onion Scallion?

It's a very nice knife and it will not break the bank.
The speed-safe is just pure 100% COOL.

Good luck,
Allen.

Wow! Thanks for all the responses. I was away for the weekend, so it will take a while to digest them.

I guess I should add three more things to my specs.

First, hanging out here has made me more of a "steel snob". I can afford Talonite, S30V, M2, D2, VG-10, ATS34 or 154CM, so why "settle" for less?

Second, I'm slightly more partial to an AXIS lock or a good lockback than to a liner/frame lock. This is partly due to "white knuckle" concerns (which will probably never come up in the real world given my uses) and is partly due to a preference not to put any part of my body between a scary sharp blade and the handle.

Third, other things equal, I'll go with the lighter knife.

Thanks again for the responses.

That Benchmade-Russell looks nice.

OK, I ordered the Calypso Jr. Lightweight. Here's why--

1. Price. At about $50 delivered to my door I can afford to give it to a friend if I don't like it.

2. Flat ground VG-10 blade. I like what I've read about this grind, steel and the combination of the two. I like the flat grind better than the hollow grind on the Delica and Native.

3. Blade size--really close to my employer's 3" maximum.

4. Weight--1.9 oz. I also considered the Lil Temperance, but it's as heavy as my Benchmade 806D2.

5. No studs. I prefer holes to studs.

I know the lock mechanism may not be as strong as an AXIS, frame or compression lock, but with the Boye-style cutout, it should be reliable. A good lockback should be strong enough for everything I do.
