Hey all I still can't decide between the 4,5&6. What might rule out the 4 is the closeness to the 3. Can anyone post a benchmade nimravus alongside a esee4. I have a nimravus and the specs apear similar in size. The attraction that is drawing me to the 4 is it is legal to carry in my state without the hunting fishing requirement. I do believe the 6 would be th best all arounder but I could not carry legally. The five while I just love the lines and looks it would probably be a knife that stayed in the house or truck do to te weight like my bk2. So the 4 is legal and light yet tuff but if I am only going to get an inch or so incease I am not sure if it's worth it.

hi, if you do get to come to the campout you can try the whole line out see what feels best and works for you.

if you have the 3 the 4 is a much larger knife dosnt look it on paper but in the hand it is.

If you want it for EDC the HEST is also a good candidate. I just got mine recently and I love it.

For a woods knife, you can't go wrong with a 4 or 6. They are both excellent.

It sounds like you need to decide what you want the knife to do...

If you are looking for a bigger EDC that you can carry, it's a no brainer, go ESEE 4.

If you want a larger knife for the times you are camping etcetera, it's ESEE 6.

If you have the chance to hold them all before you decide, it's the way to go.

It sounds like you already know you'll be getting both eventually, (you will), get the

one you would get more use out of which is probably the 4.

I can confidently tell you that you'll love either one!:thumbup:

I'm extremely... decided about the HEST and the 5. I think holding them and using them will really change your mind about preconceived notions of the entire ESEE line.

GET THE 4! Trust me. You will carry this knife every day. You will use it every day. You will find that there really is nothing that it won't do. It may not be the best at slicing veggies, but you most likely have kitchen knives for that. It may not be the best at batonning wood or chopping limbs, but that what axes are for. The 4 is a fantastic little use it every day for everything knife. And, since it's legal to carry for you, you never have to worry about dressing around it. Mine rides in the thigh pocket of my Carhartts 80% of the time. The other 20% it goes on the belt or IWB. Even in dress cloths. Get the 4, you won't regret it.

When I got a 4 I thought I'd never need a 3. Completely different. Wouldn't think so but they really are. 6 is also a great blade.

I'll save you some grief .Don't decide. Just get 'em all. Problem solved

No, really I just think he needs to get hands on with all the models to get a feel for them... the RC4 looks so good on paper but to me it's useless because I hate the grip. The HEST has much more muscle than people give it credit for, and the RC5 can be used delicately, unbeknownst to the general populace....

i agree with cricketdave - the esee-4's thickness alone definitely changes the way it feels in the hand compared to the 3. i hated the 3 and ended up selling it but the 4 is my favorite. it's also my edc.

I like to ECD the biggest legal knife I can. But in the woods I would rather have a 5or 6 or bigger. I would have a 4 for my next if I didn't have one.

You mention the 4 is legal in Texas, but don't mention the 5. You do know the 5 is legal too, right? The law states 5.5". The 5 is 5.25".

I'll chime in as a fan of the 4 too. I have a 3 but I much prefer the feel of the 4 and I like the kydex sheath much better.

I keep thinking I need a 3 mil but I'm not sure I would carry it over the 4.

IF THEY HAD A 4 MIL I WOULD BY IT IN A SECOND! :D

Yes I know and while I fully intend on getting a five as a shtf blade but I know I won't carry it due to weight, because I don't like to carry my bk2 for the same reason so I think it is going to be a four or six.

Kinda like this for me as well 'cept I got the 3.
When a buddy of mine brought his 4 over I realized how different they really are.
Gotta get a 4 now.

Ya know I love the 5, and have no problems packing it, and used to habitually open carry a 5 inch Kabar when living in Texas... never got a second glance... but I think the 5 is just too big a beast to be practical for both carry and use.

I was in a similiar situation a month ago. I was having great difficulty in making a decision between the 4,5,6. In the end I decided on the ESEE 4.

As a SAR operator my knife is extremely important and therefor must be capable of many things with great effectiveness and efficiency.

With no chance to place them all in my hand I took the advice of this forum. The 4 is an amazing knife with great all around capabilities.

I have used the 4 for batoning large wood, cleaning fish, and most other bushcraft/campcraft duties. I have yet to find a down side with the knife.

You can't go wrong with the 4.

I dont want to steal a potential sale for ESEE but if you have a BK2, why do you need an ESEE5? I guess you could say for the warranty, but good luck breaking your BK2.

I would never ever ever consider carrying an ESEE5 or BK2 open (or concealed) in the city. Even if it is size legal. (if I lived in a more rural area I would maybe). Too many people would freak and too many cops would probably still stop you and check it out.
