Still using a 30-30?

A just post-64 lever Winchester with saddle ring. Always a blast to hunt with, and a great rifle as it has seen the worst the woods can dish out and survived it - long before I got it. No worries about screwing up a good finish on it, it has none.

Looking forward to getting some of the newer pointy bullets to run in the magazine - keeping seious bullet drop pushed out to 250 yards will certainly make it a lot more rifle, and much less necessary to use a scoped 30-06 bolt action. I've never had iron sights bust me in the forehead when the shot was available, and using a good scope turned down to 4 power seems a waste of money.

I hated the whole concept of the ol 30-30 when I grew up, hunted with a HK 91 for twenty years just to make the point that I could be wrong. The lever action is the gun for most deer hunting nationwide, and the 30-30 is stocked anywhere ammo sells.

Get one and spend the savings on some good weather proof hunting clothes.
