Stilletos or Something Similar?

Hey, everyone. Haven't been on here in a while & wanted to ask about stilletos & similar knives (if you can call them "knives," since plenty didn't have an edge). I don't figure I'll be carrying one around, but I wanted to know more about them- they seem to be one of those "apt" designs that just work well. Sometimes it eludes people to just use a hammer to hit something with. This seemed a great idea if you were going up against someone in armor, since it could go through plenty of it & at least get into the weak spots.

I hear that they got through the thick clothing of the Medieval & Renaissance times (the thick cloth & leather being day-to-day wear as well as guards against blades), that they were made illegal because of that, and that they have seen quite a bit of history in serious fighting- yet people seem to be reluctant to use them (I think it has to do with it not being much good for much besides stabbing & it seems risky to a lot of people). The triangular ones seemed to create wounds that wouldn't close & were hard to operate on (there was something about the surgeons making the wound bigger to make it straight so they could close it up). They seemed to be easy to carry & conceal, as well as use in a discreet manner since it at least wouldn't cause as much blood to dump out of someone.

Anyone have anything to add? I'd like to pick up one for my collection, but would like for it to be something I CAN actually carry & use. Any suggestions? I don't have hundreds of dollars to spend on a stilleto anymore than I have it to spend on a butterfly knife or a switchblade, but would still like to hear about the more expensive designs if any are good.

If by stiletto you mean the Italian style switchblades they are just like anyother knife, autos in particular. Most do have a rather long narrow blade but usually have an edge on them 1 or 2 sided. As for piercing armor, pretty sure I have no idea. You can find dirt cheap ones and nicer more expensive ones just like anyother knife. Personally, I have 2 and they would make very poor edc knives.

Do you want something you can carry and *use* for EDC purposes or self-defense purposes?

Not exactly practical. They are not sharp. It would be like carrying a sai around all the time.
