Stingray sources?

Hey everyone, I'm getting ready to send a batch of knives to Peters and was going through handle materials that I wanted on my knives.

I have a kaiken (kwaiken?) as well as a kiridashi design and would like to do a stingray and wrap type handle but am having a hard time sourcing stingray skin that hasn't been dyed black.

Does anyone have a source they would like to share? (Preferably one that won't cost me an arm and a leg.)
Has anyone tried leather bleach on stingray skin?

Thanks,
Sean

That was one of the first places I checked actually, they only have black available.
I may send them an Email and see if they have other colors coming.

Thanks

try asking Daniel Fairly by pm or go over to his forum in the "hosted knifemaker forums" area.. I know he's done quite a bit of tsukamaki wraps on his blades with a lot of materials undernieth including stingray. oh yea... it is 'kwaiken' :) good luck!

Thanks for the mention Paul!

I use -

Ostrich Market
Ebay

Same is the Japanese name for the natural skin. I have only bought the dyed skin but check ebay for Same.

Thanks for all of the responses guys, DFK is actually one of the reasons I was trying to find stingray!
Very cool knives sir.
I found a source on ebay for a decent price. Bought a white skin and a red skin.
Both approx 13x6 for $24 each. Hopefully they're quality!

Thanks,
Sean

Thanks! I'm always happy to help.

I have had great luck with everything I have purchased so far and wish you the same.
