If that is the case, you can sand it down to make it smoother. It worked out great on my scales. It still gives a bunch of traction.

No, I did infact use tape to mark it. Glock magazine base plates make great practice fodder before you go strait to your scales. With that said every plastic etc reacts a bit differently.
