Stirring the pot CRK and Strider

Good thread.
Remember, the Sebenza and the Strider folder designs are unique unto themselves. Example: the Reeve bushing and the Strider build. Both are ground breaking, imo.

Striders dont come close to the quality of chris reeve knives.

With the Gen 7 SnG/SmF -in function- mine do. With the introduction of the mSJ75, the fit, finish, "unnecessary" refinements & overall construction on my example are totally on par with CRK.

The whole CR/Strider comparison is dated and pointless, there are so many other choices to compare with CR knives now.

Personally I think they are comparable, though not that similar. They are both fairly readily available top tier knives. Both have a great design & they are nearly the same price which is important to many. People want what people want. They don't know what they want unless they are exposed to it. What's wrong with seeking/asking for more exposure? The fact that CRK vs. Strider threads still persist is a testament to their timeless (CRK proven, Strider well on its way) designs. I've had many of each and I still get excited over a new one coming in the mail. CRK has been around a loooooong time. They are the benchmark and they earned it. I'd say that it's fair to compare ANY knife to a Sebenza. Strider came outta the gate with a different set of principles with their knives. Both companies will continue to evolve and be discussed. The "other choices to compare" are either affordable alternatives (which I personally can easily pick apart), super pricey, hard to find, unappealing or a myriad of these aspects. If the people weighing in these two makers are anything like me they'll find makers like Grayman & TSF to be a little clunky, ZT grasping at straws to be different but similar at the same time, Les George's VECP ugly & most of the rest crazy expensive for little other than a respected makers name or their limited availability/collectible value.

Like it or not, CRK and Strider will always hold similar ground in the knife industry and I, with pleasure, am happy to help with my own personal viewpoint in light of a unique honest person's desire to learn.

And as always, this is IMO!

(...)Somehow it just seems odd that Sal Glesser isn't producing as precise and high quality of a knife that sells on the street for $300 as Chris Reeve does that sells for $450 - $500. (...)

Spyderco fluted titanium Military goes for around $300+... ;)

I always love to see that Bob Dozier clip,it kinda shuts everyone up. As well as the several Blade Show Awards(fellow knifemakers do the judging, not the public) so I think they might know a ting or two:thumbup: I like Striders looks but i'm hesitant of getting one b/c the drama about the new lockface having problem's and they don't carburize or carbidize the lockface. I almost pulled the trigger on a CPM 154 smf but backed out b/c of the lockface

I bought an SMF with the new lock face and absolutely love it, what problems are they having with the new lockup? Every manufacturer will have problems every once in a while but I hadn't heard any negatives about Strider's new lockup.
