Ok, we are moving!

The house we are moving into has a really nice storm/bomb shelter on the property.

Its the medium size model here, for 8 persons.

Im gonna stock it and im wondering what you guys stock in yours? I know water/ food, but for how long? How long does water in the big 5gal jugs keep? Does it need to be rotated out? What other supplies? I have a good idea of what im shooting for, but I wonder if im missing something.

Thanks!

Get the book ' When all hell breaks loose ' by Cody Lundin, it is exactlly what you need to answer any questions of that nature !!!!!

J, congrats on the decision to move, not that you had a choice. It sounded like Tina had her heart set on that place. Anyway, it sounded like a cool spot when you told me about it!

As to what to stock, I'm not sure. Canned goods, alot of water, ammo, etc.

I do think you should rotate out the items, as most canned goods have a shelf life...

Thanks bro... Yeah she wanted this house bad. Well, I also liked the shelter, and the new machine shop onsite too. ;)

Pitdog hit it on the nose here. I was going to say the samething.

I would surely add flashlights and a radio, with extra batteries. Or on second thought you could always get the radio and flashlight with the hand crank. Not sure on the water.

Yeah, I need to get down there with one and see if a radio even picks up in the shelter. Id use my handheld with all the ambulance, fire, Police, emergency channels in it.

That is so cool. I wish my place had one of those- I'd be in it all the time, hiding out from the wife.

Don't forget the porn.

PORN!!!!! Portable DVD a must!

Yeah its a sweet spot. Looks all sterile like an operating room. Waterproof, w/ exhaust fans etc...

I think the standard for water is 1 gallon per person per day. Don't forget the MREs!! Also be sure to stock it for 2 extra people in case I need to escape the zombies and bring my girlfriend. I will bring my own guns and ammo.

You know it Brendan, MREs are a must, and you and yours are always welcome. Mi casa es su casa...

Theres a MO bushcrafter gathering in Sept if you can make it....Lemme know.

I should be able to make it if it's on a weekend. I'll bring my new bushsword as well. I can't remember if I told you about it, but it's made by Walter Davis and it's 100% badass.

(End of thread highjack)

Just a suggestion for the water.

Get a couple of cases of comercially bottled water. It'll store better(take up less space) and as long as there is no damage to the bottle it'll be good for drinking. Plus it'll be more efficient because...1 you won't have to rotate it 2 losing one container is only 20 or so ounces (where as if someone drops a 5 gal can how much do you lose?) 3 it's already in the drinking container ( have you tried drinking from a 5 gal can?) so you don't need to store cups.

Hope this helps
David

Brandon- check the sticky for upcoming events at the top of the WSS, there a linky to the gathering. Its an awesome place. I hope you can make it, its been too long bro.

David- good point. I think you are right.
