I've been hanging out here for almost a year now, and I really enjoy the forum. I didn't know diddly siccum when I started, asked the typical dumb questions, and got the typical polite answers, (most of the time). I really appreciate that too, because it was intimidating for me. There is still plenty to learn, and plenty more knives to chase. The kill is very satisfying, but chase is what keeps me going.

Anyway, I appreciate the assistance of many who have answered questions, and shared knowledge. Without the help and friendship of you guys on the forum, and Larry's fantastic website, it wouldn't be much of a hobby, and I'd have lost interest. It seems some quality people come and go, and they're missed (for the most part). Glad some of you guys stick around.

So, you're as much to blame as anyone for this obsession and me becoming a Schradeaholic. I especially enjoy all of the pictures you post, and the history lessons. Anyway, it's too hot to mow, and I'm too lazy to work on much in the house, so I thought I'd dig out some knives, and show some of the Schrade, Imperial, and Ulster stockman I've accumulated in no particular order.

These are 89 and 98 patterns on the bottom (861 in the middle) and the 88 patterns on the top (mostly).

These are 50 and 55 patterns on the bottom, 32 and 34 patterns vertical on top, and junior stockman on the sides

Hey Hal,
Since you've been on for almost a year, then surely you must know about the time honored tradition on bladeforums when you post your first pics of a collection. You must find a newer member with the word bucks in their bladeforum handle and pass said knives on to him. Sorry, I don't make the rules.....I just follow them:D

Nice collection Hal. You've done well in a short amount of time.

Marc

Geez Marc, Buck Williams, Buck Arnold, and Bucky Beaver just sent me an email saying the same thing. See... there is still a lot to learn!

Hal,
They are all imposters! Wannabees.....plus I posted it first:D Isn't Buck williams dead anyways? I should at least have a leg up on him. ;)

Nice Collection!!! I see several of my favorites in there, and the Gerstner box is no slouch either.

Thanks Upstream. It's a Gerstner GI-532. The economy line. Great for knife storage. It was a damaged one I bought on Ebay. There is more competition for those than knives. The one I bought was poorly listed, didn't get much traffic, and I took a gamble. Ended up I got a good deal.

Serious, beautiful stockman collection, Hal! And the Gerstner box proves your dedication (read "addiction!) Nice all together like that, I'm sure Bucks is gonna like them!<g>!

Nice..
Keep the pictures coming and of course we will try and answer ?'s

Nice. Now, I need to get that organized. How much for a dozen of those boxes?

Buck Codgers :D

I'm not that organized, believe me. However, the box does have two optional components, a base and a wheel me around add-on. I would imagine you need to build your own Codger on a wall or two.

Codger,
You could go to A.G.Russell's web and see a few..
beautiful things..

Those are the nice ones. I got the one not made by American craftsman in Dayton Ohio, but rather to outsourced offshore labor. Kind of a hypocrite to put those US made knives in there, although somewhat of a thrifty one.:o

Whoa, you have a long way to go; you're missing a lot of Old Timer Stockman variations. :D

Just kidding, that's a fine collection and good photography.

I've been needing something for knife storeage too - the steamer trunk is bursting at the hinges. So at first I was going to order a tool chest like that Gerstner or a ball-bearing Craftsman - Not big enough. So next I was going to make a locking wall unit - Too difficult (I'm not much of a carpenter). So now my plan is a "Knife Room" with secure doorlocks and simple shelving made from 2x2s...

Anyway I'm glad to know the Gerstner International products are good quality. I've seen some knockoffs made from laminated cardboard/plywood that are complete junk.

Best Wishes,
-Bob

Ag Russells Hobby Chests
Those are the nice ones...
The most recent AG Russell catalog has the lower priced Gerstner International chests.

Also, an FYI, the Rigid Executive knives (Old Timer imitations) are on closeout at SMKW. Probably not worth collecting, but I ordered a stockman for comparison purposes. I'll post a mini-review when it arrives.

thawk, v. nice; kinda shows me where i'm going (as long as my 3 adult kids don't find out i'm spending their inheritance). i really like the "regular" type knives (vs "fancy" ones !) and a little used but still perfect condition 'cause then i can try it out.
for knife storage, i have a large, attractive, gun safe purchased years ago to exceed Canada's gun laws. it soon became one of my possesions that i appreciate most. when i'm out, my guns, knives, ivory collection, sometimes cash, etc. is secured in 720 pounds of fireproof steel. it gives peace of mind; easily worth over time, the $3000 - 4000 they cost up here. (if i croak suddenly the kids will have to find the hiding place for the combo; have fun, dad's last trick)

Hal great knives and great pics thanks for sharing. In the second pic on the bottom row the second from the right end what is that and how bout another pic thats pretty interesting looking knife. Joel

Ulster 50 with celluloid handles - Don't know the real name for the stripe pattern

here is a dumb question but I aint skeered to ask so here goes... What is the actuall definition of a stockman? , 3 blades or can a stockman be 2 or how does that work and while Im at it what it the definition of a jack knife- I always thought it meant a knife that had 2 blades that opened from the same end but Ive seen numerous jack knives or at least people call them that(ebay) that are different.... Anyone...............
