Stockman Collection

You definitely need Bernie Levine's book, but here goes; Generally a stockman has a serpentine shape, and three blades. Most often, they have a clip and a spey, with either a sheepfoot, a pen, or a punch as the third blade. There are 4, 5 and even 6 blade variations.
Jack knife anyone?

thawk, that is a great collection!

I like stockman knives too, though I don't have nearly as many Schrades as you do. Here are mine. There are a few nice Schrades in the pic... In the bottom left corner is the Farmer, the Rancher, and a Special Edition. All three have nice bone handles. And the bright blue one is a Schrade FFA edition 8OT. I especially like that one since I used to be an FFA member in high school.

Thanks for sharing your pictures and your collection!

Thanks Guyon. Nice knives yourself. I especially like that worm grooved Schatt you have in your set.

here is a dumb question but I aint skeered to ask so here goes... What is the actuall definition of a stockman? , 3 blades or can a stockman be 2 or how does that work and while Im at it what it the definition of a jack knife- I always thought it meant a knife that had 2 blades that opened from the same end but Ive seen numerous jack knives or at least people call them that(ebay) that are different.... Anyone...............

That's an excellent question, and I think you are right about jacks and stocks Joel. I think the 2 blade serpentine jacks are often mislabeled. I had a few of those jacks sneak into my pictures, but I didn't have the heart to tell them to get back in the drawer, so I let them stay.

Now what is it called when the knife has a Turkish clip on one end, and a pen on the other end of the same spring? I have two of these. Once is a SFO Bone Schrade, the other a Cracked Ice Western Boulder CO. I carry the Western Boulder sometimes. It was sold as a "Slim Stockman".
