Stockman pattern overall advice

So much goodness in that lineup... I could stare at it for hours and hours. 🤠

I’m a little late to the party and you won’t learn anything by listening to me, but if you’re looking for a full Stockman, it is really hard to beat a USA made Schrade.

Thanks for the response Jim. What model is the 4th from the top, is it the 885UH?

What a nice group of Premium Stockman pocketknives! OH

Updating this thread, bought a new Schrade 885UH. I was looking at several previously used among the various brands (Buck, Case, and Schrade). The seller listed this as “new old stock”, so my thinking was to try an example in it’s original condition for the full experience. Should be here Friday, I am pretty excited to try it out.

I just found this thread. I hope you love that 885UH. I really like stockman pattern knives, and carry a CASE 75 pattern daily. I carried a Schrade 34OT for a few years, and it was a handy little companion, but I found I just generally prefer a larger knife.

This is a 6.5375 - Bonestag, that I dyed black after it became severely pocket worn after a few years of use.

For me, the usefulness of the Stockman is in the variety of blades (duh right), but I use the clip for many tasks such as food and the point thereof for fine work. I use the sheepsfoot for woodworking, scoring or otherwise things that might require a straight edge. I use the spey primarily for whittling, spoons mostly, but I found it's a great general purpose blade for close work where a sharp point might pose a hazard.

If you end up liking that and want to try a slightly smaller stockman, I have a buck 303 2nd quality I would forward you. It was given to me by a member here a couple years ago when I was in the same situation. He also sent a 301, which I like more, and I've since added a case stockman too.

I think the defect is bad stamping on the blades (more than one), or maybe that's the 301. Both work fine, but none of the buck slipjoints I've had have stiff springs, usually they're on the milder side.

Thanks, much appreciated!

I hope you like the Uncle Henry. I bought the 885UH on the bottom in 1970, and it's been around. I got it's replacement a few years ago on the Exchange here.
Well used and loved, beautiful.
