Another USA made Old Timer 8OT stockman. It took a good edge .

Been toting this week. Enjoying it.

My all time favourite stockman: the ebony GEC 53. It's a wee bit too large for casual EDC use in a suburban environment for my purposes. But when going out bush or at home in the garden, it's rarely away from my side.

One of the reasons I love it is how low the sheepfoot blade rides when closed. Having at least one straight edged blade is something I always look for in my preferred multiple blade configs these days. However the closed spine of the sheepfoot blade on many stockman models can present quite an uncomfortable hot spot when using the other blades in a tight grip for protracted work.

This ones super comfy with any of the blades out in a variety of different grips.

That's a looker, cambertree.

I'm hoping GEC puts out another 3.25"-3.5" stockman. I agree that the 53 is a little large for inconspicuous use.

This knife holds a special place in my heart. A gift from my mom, this knife has gone a lot of places with me. It's served well on the farm and in the field. It has cleaned deer for me, a half dozen squirrel, a handful of trout and a multitude of other knife chores.

It grew closer to me after a tragic incident. My mom's house (where I was living) caught fire in the wee hours of the morning. I was awoken mysteriously and by the time I opened my eyes i was running down the hallway which was ablaze. After alerting the rest of my family to the flames, I started getting our pets out. Once everyone was out of the house, my brother and I started getting our valuables out, anything we could grab, we did. In the middle of the mad dash I spied my beloved stockman sitting on the kitchen counter nestled next to my wallet. It had been dumped there after a shift of work. I slipped it into my pocket. At the time I wasn't sure if my only belongings were going to be a tired pair of blue jeans and that stag stockman. fast forward and that stockman and I are opening gifts around a Christmas tree. The house was lost along with a ton of possessions, but it all worked out in the end. It seems like it was a lifetime ago and holding this knife reminds me of the strength and support shared by all of our neighbors, friends and family.

Great story, awesome knife. The northfield 81 stockman is something of a grail knife for me.

Here is an interesting Parker-Frost Bison, stamped 1978-2 over SCHRADE on the pile side tang. Seller said 1978 was the date of mfg., but I'm not sure. Any additional info would be appreciated. Identical to a SW 881 I have, except for the green jigged bone instead of yellow delrin. As ground finish on all blades.

P.S.: Further research has revealed that 1978 is indeed the date of mfg. of the Parker-Frost Bison, and they were made by Schrade in the USA.

Thanks Wilt!
GEC would be fool hardy not to do another #81 run soon. I honestly think they the perfect size stockman and that big clip is eye catching! An #81 Tidioute in grizzly jig bone would be too much for me to say no too!

Great to see not only some fine knives but ones made truly special by the stories and memories attached to them.

Nice work fellas.

Cheers Wilt.

Great story Johnny T. Sounds like you have an amazing family and community around you. That's a real nice stockman you have. I'm interested to see by the patina, that your spey blade gets a bit of use. Do you use it for skinning at all? I always thought the belly would be nice to use for cottontails and jackrabbits (we call 'em rabbits and hares over here), but I tend to use a fixed blade myself when it comes to doing that job.

Here's another big 'un: a custom stockman I was CFing and CEing at the last Australian Knifemakers Guild show. A little out of my price range though...

I'm crossing my fingers for a Northfield with sawcut bone!

I want that knife.

I'll keep an eye out and let you know if I find one. There is a nice car in the mugshot thread I may trade it for.;)
Actually,... I couldn't afford the insurance so, I'll just keep an out for one.

I put together a photo of my "jumbo" stockmen (my term, all over 4¼" closed). Five with round bolsters, four with square.
Five with stainless, four with carbon steel. These big boys can handle just about any job thrown at them.

From top left, down: 2 Owl Head sowbellies, 2 GEC Dixies, Moore Maker (center), S&M, Case, Winchester, S&M.
