Stockman vs Scout pattern

Sorry to be contrary, but let me speak on behalf of the stockman. For utility, your comments on the scout knife and sak are totally accurate.

But estheticaaly, none of them beats my Schrade Oldtimer stockman. Throw in an Imperial and a Colonial, both with sawcut handles, and it's a fashion show.

An Oldtimer Stockman was my first knife back in the 60's...I really love the pattern (and the Case Large Texas Jack). The stockman is my Dad's favorite pattern so when I run onto a nice older one, I always give it to him. I do have a big Eye Brand yellow stockman that's mine

An elderly lady at the gun show today was selling a slew of here husband's knives today (don't now if he's deceased or not as she didn't volunteer and I didn't ask). Had three practically new Oldtimer stockmans.

Making the arraignments to parachute into your AO! :D

I forgot about this one....
My Dad gave me this 301 after the fire....He could never get it very sharp. I think it's one of those old 70's era Bucks that were really hard to sharpen. It took me years of hitting it a lick now and then to get it close to where I wanted it.

I am going to have to go with the scout pattern. The only thing I don't like is the bail. I can't get used to the bail in my pocket. I like a cub scout pattern with the bail removed. The smaller size carries well and I rarely need a can opener. The screw driver is very handy and since the blade is a spear point, the punch comes in very handy when a point is needed. Cub scout knives (and barlows) are my favorite knives. One of these days I am going to make a barlow with a caplifter/screwdriver as the second blade. Someday...

Depends. The scout will have overall more utility. The stockman will excel at a wider variety of cutting tasks. Both may have an awl (which is very useful).

I agree for some reason the scout in my pocket keeps feeling to large but not large enough to stay upright.. I don't like sheaths so I keep carrying my Old timer 34OT more often.

I have a sak scout pattern I use daily both at work and when camping. I can't see another edc being as small and as useful as a scout pattern. And as far as aesthetics go, I actually think the alox saks are better looking then bone and nickel brass bolsters. Traditional patterns I like, traditional looks I do not. The traditional look just isn't my thing.
