Stolen Gerber Mark II

Just a thought…There’s a thread here under General Knife Discussion called “Show Off Your Knife Collection.” There is an absolutely brilliant Gerber Mark II collection by “OPSEC-C-C.” Post number #1268. Maybe it’s worth a shot to reach out to him and see if, in all of his years of collecting, that he might have seen your knife at one time…those initials on the knife might stand out in a collector’s memory????

Yes, I can be persistent, but in this case I've really only tried it three times now since 2009. And I don't really have much hope, but it doesn't hurt to keep the request current just in case someone does come across it.

I have not thought to put a watch on eBay. I'll give that a try. Thank you.

I know nothing about pawn shops, but the knife was stolen so long ago that I doubt it is still in one if it ever was. And I doubt that they keep records online from this far back.

I do not have a photo of the knife. I'm not a collector, it was just a memento of something important that I did back when photos were taken on film and people did not blitz there lives with their cameras. It would not have even occurred to me at the time, though I certainly regret it now. The first time it was stolen was in the '70s. The second time was in 2003. If it weren't for the acid etched initials I would not have even bothered to make this request, but I think it would be difficult to remove them, so that's why there is a tiny slim chance of still finding it.

Good suggestion. Thank you. I have asked him.

FatBear, the knife has a serial number on the blade opposite the Gerber logo. Both of these markings are on the blade closest to the handle. This would help greatly, as Gerber made just over 10000 MKII knives in 1976, and just under 10000 MKII knives in 1977. Reaching out to Gerber is futile as they do not keep records from their past for very long. Also, a picture of the knife would help as Gerber made this knife with 3 different serration patterns. If it was actually made in 1976, all three were sold on these knives. I completely understand the sentimental attachment to this knife. Would a knife that looks the same possibly help? I only ask because without that serial number, it would be easy to remove the acid etched initials. I will check my records going back to the initial post date. The advice of checking the local pawn shops might help especially if the keep good description records. I will also reach out to collectors who do not use this forum.

This thread makes me think we should have a "look out for my stolen knife" dedicated thread. Somewhere out there is a crackhead with my one of kind Randall bird and trout.

Best of luck. I have not seen one of these knives in person in a very long time, but I'll remember this story if I ever see one again, and check for your initials.
