Sorry this happened OP. When I ordered my Norseman, my heart was in my throat until it arrived, and it didn't even have to cross an international border.

I frequent a few places online where folks trade/sell knives. I'll keep my eyes open.

Depending on how their orders are fulfilled, they may not be able to change it. For international orders and Customs forms, many of the fields are populated automatically and are not easily edited, depending on your fulfillment software.

Besides, legally you are required to list the value of the item, and this would be a business shipping it, I believe. It's not like two dudes shipping to each other where they declare the value at 15 bucks or something. And good luck getting an insurance claim filled for the full value if you list the declared value far beneath that.

Not always the case if you're dealing with 3rd party insurers and or brokers.

Sometimes they dont want the value listed on high priced items. I know fed-ex wont ship anything valued over 186K USD. Malca-Amit is typically needed from there or Ferrari and a few others.

Also be weary of insurance through couriers such as a fedex and UPS as even thought they will sell it to you they will liekly not cover your items and just refund the insurance fee's

Like I said, depending. I don't believe the knives cost anywhere near 186K. The point is that a lot of online commerce systems fill out the customs forms automatically. And that was one possible reason the actual value was listed here.
