Stolen Knife Alert

Well, if it was picked up on a Friday, it probably went nowhere until Monday. I always wait one month and one day before I panic. If it went by Fedex Ground, they don't work weekends and are useless at sending stuff to the right place. I had a set of golf clubs go from Michigan, to Toronto (40 minutes from me) in 4 days and then to Alberta and back to Toronto in an additional 14 days. The reason? The person in the Kinko's store misread the post code that was clearly marked on the package and put the wrong postcode on the label they printed. Their system is postcode/zip code based.

Don't give up hope just yet, and if it still doesn't arrive after a month, take them to court for the full value, even if they say the maximum they cover is X. You had a contract with them to do a job and they failed. The law is on your side even if their small print isn't.

Edited to add "International Express service". Where is the destination? If it crosses a border, you have customs to contend with and that can be an extra 10 to 14 days.

If Customs had it the FedEx scan would show that.

That a good idea Don. Overnight packages are scanned at every step and don't stay in one place long enough to be messed with.
AND if an expensive item goes missing, there is a chance that the Postal Inspectors office will be the one asking the questions after a while.

This the reason I use the USPS and request USPS money orders as payment. I am not as "Big League" as Don "Express" Hanson III, and find that Priority Mail, with a signature confirmation or insurance, is a great service.
Ah....sorry about that, Pete. I backed away from a sale from you because the postal money order thingie kinded weirded me out before i got to know you a better on here. I am somewhat embarrased now. :( But a good idea it would seem. USPS "lost" an Omega watch I bought a while back. It was sent priority mail with no tracking number. Lo and behold, 4 weeks later, it got "found". Wonder who lit a fire under who's butt? lol

You can stop wondering why you're seeing more FedEx boxes outside your local PO's; because as told to me by my local PM, the USPS now uses FedEx for their speedier package services;) Sucks to have the loss occur during shipment, just when you thought it was safely on it's way:jerkit:

USPS is just using the FedEx planes and FedEx employes don't handle the individual packages. I'll bet the FedEx employes were drilled on not messing with the US mail.

USPS tradiionally has used whoever will fly cehapest. For the longest time, it was the airlines. That is how a lot of them made their money early on back before WW2.

Interestingly, Fedex told me at one point that British Customs had it and that's where the item had disappeared. Subsequently it turned out that it never left the states. I found out that Fedex will ofter pre-clear low-risk packages through Customs so that it may appear that an item was accepted at foreign Customs when in fact it never physically left the states.
