Wasn't sure where to post this. This Watson Magni was stolen while enroute to me from NY to CA. More then likely by a postal employee. The box was slightly damaged and empty when it arrived at my local post office. They advised me of the situation and I filed all of the reports. Seller seems to be a stand up guy. Would be nice if they were serial numbered. Was really looking forward to trying out the Tracker Dan sheath. This Watson/TD combo is so darn hard to find now a days. Finally find one after a very long search and it gets stolen by the post office! Just fyi and venting.

I would also like to add. If you use USPS, I would reccomend over taping the box so it isnt so easy for an employee to examine and steal the shipment. I realize they could just cut it open and discard the box however thiefs are usually opprotunists and most likely would just pick an easier box. Just my take on the situation.

I like the knife! Very sorry to hear about it turning up missing!

Wow beautiful knife, sorry it didnt make it to you. Not that they're much easier to get ahold of but it reminds me of a Dan Tope knife if you needed something to hold you over....

Would you mind posting pics of the box, I'd like to see exactly how this so-called "damage" happened

Here’s the box. I went down to the post office when the delivery status changed from “out for delivery” to “alert” and the Postmaster gave it to me along with a poorly delivered “it happens” speach. The seller further advised me that he had wrapped the knife in a bubblewrap envelope as well. Obviously a box containing a solid piece of steel, surrounded by bubblewrap could not be crushed. I suspect the thief ripped open the box seeing that it was insured, removed the conents and put the box back into the system. Of course none of the other sorters or machines had the common sense to flag the empty box, that was until my carrier did and brought it to the attention of her boss, the postmaster. I spoke to my carrier and she advised me of this. The tab on the crushed side has a tear in it as well.

I should add that common sense would dictate that the post office should not print the cost of postage on their packages. Higher postage equals higher insurance/value of contents. Sorters seem to be the weak link in their system and makeup the majority of persons arrested for theft in the postal service.

What was the mailing weight of the parcel?
Its a small fixed rate box containing the pictured fixed blade knife. I suspect, less then 1 pound. The seller also taped the tabs down on both sides. The tape on the opened side has been torn, along with the tab.

They weigh the package upon accepting it, I was just curious to see if the weight matched up with what it should. Did the seller refund you?

It is insured, so I guess you need to get your refund from the seller and buy another.
Watson and TD dont collaborate any longer and Watson doesn’t make these anymore. He redesigned the magni and hasn’t offered g10 scaled knives for a while now. The money is secondary to me. I found a grail and it was stolen by the post office.

I asked the seller to send a picture of his drop off receipt. Hes out of town so it wont be until Mon :(

My PO receipts never show a weight when something is sent in a flat rate box. The weight is listed only on plain wrapped boxes sent Priority or higher. YMMV.

Every receipt I have has the weight near the top. I've been using click-and-ship lately at home then drop it off at the post office, usually first thing in the morning. The receipt they give me at the post office has the weight. I also only use fixed rate priority boxes.

That's a tough loss. Sorry to see. Thanks for posting the images, though.

I am one part photographer and one part shipping department. I look at that box and see a few things:

It looks like it ran through a rolling press with all those 'tire tracks' EVERYWHERE. Wow. It's really quite possible it went into some double conveyor and it squeezed that slippery wrapped knife and sheath right out. Where it went from there? Hmmmmm.

That ornery clear packing tape isn't present. That little paper sticker covering the flap is WOEFULLY insufficient. I have a lot of those and they serve one purpose: to identify the box's shipping method, not for security.

You don't need to hear this, but I'll say it: I always, always, ALWAYS wrap the ends of these boxes with clear vinyl shipping tape, and then it won't allow easy access. You NEED to cut it open. This doesn't look like there was any cutting going on.

It was mauled open by man OR machine. I wish you better.

Thanks. I know, the guy who shipped it did a half ass job. I too, tape everything with shipping tape. In the unlikely event it finds its way to me I will purchase a lottery ticket. I filled out several forms with the description, etc.

Best shipping job someone did for me was to send the knife in a heavy duty cardboard tube with the plastic plugs in the ends and taped heavily!
